We recently had a significant increase in the horses and donkeys in our care.\nAs a volunteer with The Wings Program you will be helping us with rehabilitating and transitioning horses and donkeys to new homes\, and supporting the sanctuary equines that are not available for adoption for various reasons.\nWe have a variety of volunteer needs including daily chores\, mucking\, feeding\, grooming\, socializing equines\, ranch repair and various projects.\nOur next volunteer orientation is Saturday\, June 19 from  10-11am. SUMMARY:St. Mary’s Mission Saturday Series
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 19 at 11 a.m. Chris Weatherly\, historic preservation specialist\, will talk about the restoration and preservation work he has accomplished at Historic St. Mary’s Mission over the last 20 years.  He will feature each historic building on site.   \nChris is a professional in his field and is the ‘keeper’ of the log buildings that date back to 1862.\nChris was involved with extensive historic restoration at Monticello in Charlottesville\, VA before moving to Montana. His preservation expertise includes contracts with MT Fish Wildlife and Parks from Virginia City to Chief Plenty Coup’s house in Pryor.   He did interior and exterior restoration on a homestead cabin outside of Dillon for the Bureau of Land Management.  Many historic features in Western Montana have benefited from his passion for history and the dedicated skills of Chris Weatherly.\n\nCelebrate “Montana’s First Best Place.”  St. Mary’s Village was settled 48 years before Statehood!!! Laundry Love Hamilton provides the laundry detergent\, fabric softener and quarters. Due to COVID-19 our events are now held by appointment only. We do ask for a 48 hour advanced notice of appointments and laundry to be done on your appointment day.

DESCRIPTION:Come join our next Building a Stronger Bitterroot event with special guest and soil grazing expert Jim Gerrish followed by a community BBQ! \nIn this three hour workshop\, Jim will teach us about how to understand and manage four key ecosystem processes to regenerate healthy soils and landscapes. \nHe will teach us how to: \n\neffectively manage grazing to capture more solar energy\nimprove water cycle function\ncreate effective mineral cycling\nand nurture biodiversity on your farm or ranch\n\nHe will also explain why managing time rather than just space is critical to effective grazing management. \nWe will begin the workshop with a 1-hour classroom session to explain the basic principles of Management Intensive Grazing.
