DESCRIPTION:Montana Fish\, Wildlife & Parks will host a trapper education field day in Missoula on Saturday\, July 8 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. at the FWP office (3201 Spurgin Road). \nStudents must register for the field day in advance: fwp.mt.gov/hunt/education/trapping. Students must also complete the free online education course prior to the field day. \nTo purchase a Montana resident Class C trapping license\, residents 12 and older must now complete a Montana trapper education course or have purchased a trapping license in at least three prior years in Montana or another state.  This course also satisfies the requirement for wolf trapping. \nMontana resident trappers who have taken a wolf trapper education course but haven’t been a licensed trapper for three years will need to complete the full trapper education course to be able to trap wolves in 2023 and beyond.  \nMontana’s trapper education program includes online coursework and a mandatory in-person field day taught by volunteer instructors\, where students can learn from experienced trappers about trapping ethics\, avoidance of non-target species\, fur management and safety. \nOther field days will be offered in other communities around the state. DESCRIPTION:Poppin’ Bottles for the Fairgrounds Foundation \nIt’s a known fact that there never is enough taxpayer money to do all the things our County needs and wants to do at our largest County asset\, the Ravalli County Fairgrounds. To help\, a small group of concerned folks formed the Ravalli County Fairgrounds Foundation\, Inc. (RCFF) in 2020\, a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization\, to make sure that our historic fairgrounds is preserved\, improved\, enhanced and maintain. Funding for the foundation’s projects comes from private donors and grants. \nTo assist RCFF in its cause\, Shed Horn Cellars\, located at 335 W. Main Street in Hamilton\, will be hosting a Poppin’ Bottles for Nonprofits event on Saturday\, July 8th from 2 to 8pm. Then\, take part in a lively discussion with an expert panel about the proposed Sheep Creek exploration and mining at the the headwaters of the Bitterroot. \nShort film\, Sagebrush Gold: \nA lithium mine being built in Nevada’s remote sagebrush desert promises us as greener future\, but local ranchers\, environmentalists\, and indigenous tribes share a different side to the story. \nPanelists \nBonnie Gestring is the Northwest Program Director at Earthworks\, a national non-profit organization dedicated to protecting communities and the environment against the adverse impacts of mineral and energy development\, while seeking sustainable solutions. Bonnie leads Earthworks’ efforts in Montana\, Oregon\, Idaho\, Alaska and Washington. She is the author of numerous reports on hardrock mining\, and she has been active in campaigns to protect clean water\, fish and wildlife\, and important ecosystems throughout the northwest U.S.\, including Alaska’s Bristol Bay\, Montana’s Cabinet Mountains Wilderness\, and Oregon’s Siskiyou Region. \n  \nLarry Campbell is a retired exploration geologist who has worked in every western state over the course of 45 years of living in the Bitterroot. \n  \nPhil Ramsey is the lead scientist and general manager of MPG Ranch\, a biological research station near Florence. He earned his doctorate for studies of how heavy metals from mine wastes influence the Clark Fork ecosystem. Phil is assisted by his wife\, Bonny-Bleu\, a local realtor concerned about how the mine would affect Montana’s economy and land values. \n  \nJeff Lonn is a research geologist with Montana’s state geological survey at Montana Tech. He has spent over 30 years mapping and studying the geology of western Montana\, including extensive work in the Bitterroot region. He lives in Hamilton. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting free monthly Emergency Preparedness classes. They are held at 7 p.m. at the Church building located in Hamilton at 401 N. 8th Street. Upcoming topics of discussion include: May 11: “What to Have In Your Food Storage & How To Store It”; June 8: “Planning A Garden—Saving Seeds”; July 13: “Can’t Use Your Stove? Cooking With Alternative Methods Using the Cookers We Assembled Earlier As Well As Other Methods”; August 10: “Water Bath Canning & Pressure Canning”; September 14: “Basic First Aid & Kits: What to Have and How To Use Them”. You can attend any or all classes. Classes typically run 60-90 minutes. For the “Alternative Cooking Methods” classes\, class size is too large to complete assembly in class\, so sign ups will be made during class for items to be made/completed at a later date.
