SUMMARY:Bison Archeology in Glacier National Park - Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Long ago\, before the Going the Sun Road or the Sperry Chalet\, Glacier National Park was once home to bison. While today visitors can still experience bears\, goats and moose\, the bison no longer graze in the meadows and valleys below the towering peaks. This presentation will explore what is known and not known about the bison who once roamed in these rugged mountains and the people who for centuries lived with and relied on these bison. This presentation will also review recent research into bison in Glacier\, including some preliminary results which have yet to be published. \nNote: This event is a live stream program; the presenter will not be in-person at NVPL. \nSpeaker Bio \nKyle Langley is an archaeologist with Glacier National Park. He studies the past and present human relationship with rugged high alpine environments such as Glacier National Park\, exploring how humans have found sustenance and meaning in these environments. \nZoom option available.

The RCR annual meeting this year will be held at Homestead Organics (175 Skalkaho Hwy\, Hamilton) on September 24 th \, 2023\, from 5:30- 7 PM. These beautiful paintings are compelling images of horses and donkeys in need that have found a home at the Wings Programs in Corvallis. Tracy generously donates a portion of all sales to Wings. The Faces of Rescue paintings will also be auctioned online. DESCRIPTION:  \nFor Women Only Introduction To Defensive Handguns August 26 & September 23 2023 \nThis 2 day course is for women with little or no experience with      handguns\, who may be frightened of handguns or who are considering acquiring a handgun. \nThe first day course is designed to assist you in choosing the right handgun – for you. It will also introduce you to the facilities of the Whittecar Range. \nThere will be discussions on handgun safety\, basic operation of revolvers\,semi-automatic handguns\, and the cartridges used in each type of handgun. \nThe legal aspects of the use of force will be presented and discussed. \nHandguns will be provided so that you may handle the different types and models. Ammunition will also be provided for a live fire session on the range. A self defense book\, specifically for women\, will also be provided. \nThe second day course will teach basic defensive shooting using the students own equipment. Safe gun handling will be taught and stressed. \nWe will discuss  various types of ammunition and the performance of each type. \nThe class will be held at the Whittecar Range on Blodgett View Road. \nThe class is limited to 10 participants. \nFor an application or further information call Lee at 642-3590 or Jim at 360-8392. \nSuccessful completion of this two day course meets the education \nrequirements for application to the state for a concealed carry permit. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Eco-Friendly Green Home Tour.   Join us for a tour of two super do-it-yourself houses that are great examples of green energy.   Saturday\, Sept. 16.   Meet at 9 am at the old K-Mart parking lot in Hamilton to carpool/caravan to the houses.   Expect to be finished by 1 pm. \n\nDaniel and Katherine’s house is a load-bearing (without frame) strawbale and cob house with earthen floors and clay-based plaster finishes.  The house utilizes a rubble trench foundation and earthbag stem wall to support the 2-1/2-foot thick walls.\nThe home is heated with a batch-style rocket mass heater which heats the 750-square-foot home on two cords of wood each year.  Also featured on the same property are pallet and cob-constructed composting toilets\, an outdoor shower with tadelakt (Moroccan plaster)\, a strawbale workshop\, freestanding cob garden walls\, and a cob and straw bale guesthouse.\nJim and Star’s house has decorative and insulating concrete construction\, solar\, and the Annualized Geo-Solar (AGS) attached greenhouse.  This low-tech AGS system captures hot air in the summer and stores it below the greenhouse (or house) to be released in the winter.
