SUMMARY:Light at Last - Solo Art Exhibition by Montana Artist Nate Closson
DESCRIPTION:Cassens Fine Art is proud to present “Light at Last\,” a solo exhibition by Montana painter Nate Closson. Opening with an artist reception on Friday\, June 6\, from 5–7 p.m.\, the exhibition will be on view throughout the month. Closson’s work is rooted in the rhythms of the Western landscape\, capturing the transition from winter’s stillness to the promise of spring. Horses\, ranch houses\, long shadows and warm light come together in compositions that feel both intimate and grounded. \nClosson’s process begins outdoors\, and the moments are developed into carefully structured paintings that unfold in layers. “Nate’s work carries the weight of lived experience\,” says Michelle Cassens\, owner and curator of Cassens Fine Art. “There’s a clarity in these paintings that comes from someone who understands the land\, the light and the silence that define it.” \n“Light at Last” is both a celebration of the Montana landscape and a personal reflection on resilience. Created in the wake of a difficult year marked by loss and recovery\, this body of work is Closson’s meditation on emergence\, warmth and the return of vitality. Horses appear not as distant figures\, but as near-life-sized presences—symbols of movement\, energy and belonging. \nStandout works include “Summer at Last\,” a field scene at Mad Wolf Ranch where mustangs cluster in the sun\, their golden coats glowing against sun-faded grasses. In Mustangs and the Ranch House\, horses and home share the frame equally\, neither diminished\, each anchoring the composition with quiet power. “These paintings are about more than what’s shown\,” Cassens adds. “They remind us of the good\, enduring things and the light that always comes back.” \nCassens Fine Art invites the community to experience “Light At Last” and to join us in welcoming Nate Closson on Friday\, June 6\, from 5–7 p.m. at the Opening Reception.

SUMMARY:Wonders of Hot Water--Lecture series on hot springs and geothermal energy
DESCRIPTION:——————————————-\nThe Wonders of Hot Water\n\n\nA Weekly Lecture Series\non the Origins\, Legends\, and Uses\nof the World’s Hot Springs\n\n\n\nTuesday Evenings\n\nJuly 23 through August 20\n\n7:00pm to 8:00pm\n\n\n\nLolo Hot Springs Resort\nwww.lolohotsprings.com\n————–‐———————\n\n\n\nThe amazing beauty and variety of uses of hot springs around the world will be the subject of a series of lectures at Lolo Hot Springs Resort in July and August.\n\n\n\nWeek 1\nTuesday\, July 23\nMontana’s Frontier Hot Springs 1880-1920\nMontana’s hot springs and hot water resorts bubble with fascinating histories of Native American legends\, isolated wilderness soaks\, and glittering thermal water spas. Crude bathhouses built by early settlers in the 1800s gave way to ornate bathing resorts and social gathering centers. Montana’s most famous resorts – including Boulder Hot Springs\, Hunter’s Hot Springs\, Corwin Hot Springs\, and Broadwater Hot Springs – flourished and then faded from Montana’s landscape.\n\n\n\nWeek 2\nTuesday\, July 30\nLife at High Temperatures in Yellowstone’s Hot Springs\nLife on earth may have first appeared in hot springs—and now many plants and animals have adapted to live in hot springs in Yellowstone and beyond. There’s an amazing diversity of living inhabitants of hot springs\, including cyanobacteria\, fungi\, protozoa\, mosses\, crustaceans\, and insects.\n\n\n\nWeek 3\nTuesday\, August 6\nMedical Uses of Hot Springs in the Frontier West\nTestimonials abound on the curative power of thermal water. This lecture will share many of these stories and examine current research on the use of thermal and mineral waters for treating diseases and improving mental health and well-being.\n\n\n\nWeek 4\nTuesday\, August 13\nCapturing the Earth’s Energy for Space Heating and Power Generation\nMost of downtown Boise\, Idaho\, is heated with geothermal energy. And several of the buildings on the Bozeman campus of Montana State University are heated with geothermal energy. This session will examine these projects as well as dozens of other examples of capturing geothermal energy for heating buildings\, downtown communities\, and greenhouses. We will also explore how geothermal resources are converted to electrical power through innovative new technologies\n\n\n\nWeek 5\nTuesday\, August 20\nInternational Thermal Spas and Geothermal Energy Projects\nThis session will take a global tour of hot springs resorts and geothermal areas around the world\, including the elegant spas of Central Europe\, the historic onsen resorts in Japan\, and the beautiful natural hot springs of Iceland.\n\n\n————————\n\n\nJeff Birkby\, Presenter\n\n\nJeff Birkby writes and lectures on the history and use of geothermal energy for electric power generation\, space heating and hot springs tourism. He is the author of Geothermal Energy in Montana–A Consumers’ Guide\, Touring Montana and Wyoming Hot Springs and Touring Oregon and Washington Hot Springs.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll lectures are free and open to the public. No reservations needed.\n\n\nCome up to Lolo Hot Springs early for dinner and a soak\, and then stay for the lectures starting at 7pm on Tuesdays.
