The program begins at 7:00 p.m. This month’s featured speaker is Mike McTee of the MPG Ranch in Western Montana. His program title: “Lead Exposure in Wildlife.” Mike works as a wildlife researcher and caught eagles suffering from alarming levels of lead exposure. He began investigating the wound ballistics of rifle bullets\, the suspected source of lead exposure. His research has appeared in numerous wildlife and environmental journals. Mike will touch upon the use of lead in fishing as well. If you are interested in the sport of fly fishing\, then this social club is for you!  Anyone is invited and no club dues until January. SUMMARY:Bison Archeology in Glacier National Park - Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Long ago\, before the Going the Sun Road or the Sperry Chalet\, Glacier National Park was once home to bison. While today visitors can still experience bears\, goats and moose\, the bison no longer graze in the meadows and valleys below the towering peaks. This presentation will explore what is known and not known about the bison who once roamed in these rugged mountains and the people who for centuries lived with and relied on these bison. This presentation will also review recent research into bison in Glacier\, including some preliminary results which have yet to be published. \nNote: This event is a live stream program; the presenter will not be in-person at NVPL. \nSpeaker Bio \nKyle Langley is an archaeologist with Glacier National Park. He studies the past and present human relationship with rugged high alpine environments such as Glacier National Park\, exploring how humans have found sustenance and meaning in these environments. \nZoom option available.

DESCRIPTION:To hold Annual members meeting. If you have recycled glass with us or volunteered at glass recycling you are considered a member and are invited. RCR is a 501c3 nonprofit and the annual meeting is a requirement for keeping our nonprofit status. This year we need to vote on one board officer and vote to change a part of our mission statement. The RCR annual meeting this year will be held at Homestead Organics (175 Skalkaho Hwy\, Hamilton) on September 24 th \, 2023\, from 5:30- 7 PM. If you’ve volunteered or recycled glass with us in the past year come join the meeting/potluck/party. We’ll have a short meeting\, then share a delicious Bitterroot potluck\, get to know other recyclers\, and of course end by singing our recycling song (original words by Jeff Hahn to the tune of “Jumpin Jack Flash”) AND we have door prizes. DESCRIPTION:Come join the Wings Programs Equine Rescue and Sanctuary for our Fall Open House and Artist’s Reception Saturday\, Sept. 23 from 5-9pm. Tracy Rose Moyers\, a Bitterroot Valley artist\, will be featured with her Faces of Rescue paintings\, inspired by photos of Wings rescues. These beautiful paintings are compelling images of horses and donkeys in need that have found a home at the Wings Programs in Corvallis. Tracy generously donates a portion of all sales to Wings. The Faces of Rescue paintings will also be auctioned online. Please visit the Events page on our website at www.wingsprograms.org for more information. \nIn addition\, we’ll have other art for sale as well as selected tack\, Christmas cards featuring our equines and other small fundraising items. DESCRIPTION:  \nFor Women Only Introduction To Defensive Handguns August 26 & September 23 2023 \nThis 2 day course is for women with little or no experience with      handguns\, who may be frightened of handguns or who are considering acquiring a handgun. \nThe first day course is designed to assist you in choosing the right handgun – for you. It will also introduce you to the facilities of the Whittecar Range. \nThere will be discussions on handgun safety\, basic operation of revolvers\,semi-automatic handguns\, and the cartridges used in each type of handgun. \nThe legal aspects of the use of force will be presented and discussed. \nHandguns will be provided so that you may handle the different types and models. Ammunition will also be provided for a live fire session on the range. A self defense book\, specifically for women\, will also be provided. \nThe second day course will teach basic defensive shooting using the students own equipment.
