DESCRIPTION:At the Thursday\, February 20 meeting of Trout Unlimited\, TU special projects manager Christine Brissette will present “What’s new at TU\,” an overview of current and proposed BRTU projects. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Elks Club\, 203 State Street in Hamilton. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge for admission. \nBitterroot TU has been working to make our fishery – and fishing – better since its inception in the 1970’s. In 2017\, BRTU’s on-the-ground restoration program got a boost with the hire of Christine Brissette\, National TU’s Bitterroot Project Manager. In April 2018\, Christine gave a program on a nascent set of fish screen projects and enormous progress has been made since then! \nCome learn about the projects Christine has been working on in our streams\, and hear what’s on the horizon for restoration in the Bitterroot. SUMMARY:Snow sculpture competition
DESCRIPTION:The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests is excited to be joining the Zootown Arts Community Center\, Missoula Parks and Recreation\, and Discover Your Northwest to host a snow sculpture competition on Saturday\, February 22 at the Lolo Pass Visitor Center\, located off U.S. Highway 12 at the Idaho/Montana state line. Sculptors and spectators alike are welcome to come enjoy everything Lolo Pass has to offer during this free\, family–friendly event.\n\nThe event kicks off at 8 a.m. (PST) and lasts until 1 p.m.\, with sculpture judging beginning at approximately 12 noon. Prizes will be awarded to the top three creations. Snow sculpture contestants will be limited to 30 entries\, although an entry may consist of more than one person (ex. a family or group of friends). Interested snow sculptors may sign up at bit.ly/LPVC_SnowSculpt.\n\nThose not interested in competing in the sculpture competition are still welcome to visit Lolo Pass to witness the creation of this beautiful outdoor art. DESCRIPTION:The American Legion Ravalli Post 47 is hosting a Pint Night fundraiser on Sunday\, February 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bitterroot Brewery with live music by Steve Winkler\, 50/50 raffle\, and silent auction. Funds will be used to help support their sponsored community programs (Scout groups\, Bitterroot Red Sox\, Boys State). \nCome enjoy a brew and live music and help support these community programs as well! The American Legion Post 47 is a small but mighty not-for-profit veteran organization in Ravalli County located at 322 S. 2nd Ave in Hamilton. \nThe Post just celebrated its 100-year anniversary as the first Post chartered in the Bitterroot Valley after WWI (December 13\, 1919). The Post is very active in supporting the community. They sponsor the Bitterroot Red Sox baseball team (which is the only youth baseball program in Montana – the team won Regional Championships 5 of the last 6 years)\, three local Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops\, a teen Venture Group; they render military honors for 10-15 veteran funerals annually in the Bitterroot and Missoula\, they teach American flag etiquette at local schools\, visit 40-50 veterans living in the local assisted living centers\, post 1100+ white crosses on veteran graves at Riverview Cemetery every Memorial Day\, and conduct Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies. Additionally\, Post 47 gives annual scholarships for high school juniors to attend Boys State and Girls State government leadership immersion programs\, hosts the Legion Auxiliary Program and monthly Veteran Benefits Advisor sessions at the Post. \nA new roof is needed on the old Post building which will cost $25\,000. Help Post 47 continue the important community sponsorships that we have done for the past century by attending the upcoming fundraiser.

The North Valley Public Library is taking a page from the Missoula library and hosting their own Cat Castle Construction on Saturday\, February 29 at 10 a.m. Come build multi-tiered spires out of stockpiled cardboard.\n\nBuild stacked levels\, cut windows for kitty to watch the world\, create scratching posts and add a cover with colorful wrapping paper. This event broadens creativity and collaboration to build your cardboard towers. From young adult to grandparents\, all are invited to give their kitty a home fit for a king or queen.\n\nThe library will have all the necessary elements including sharp box cutters\, super strong tape\, wrapping paper and sisal rope\, so bring gloves to wear! Cats love to scratch on the cardboard so it won’t last forever\, but then you can build another with the skills you learn at the Cat Castle Construction workshop.\n\nPlease register in advance.
