SUMMARY:Fire and climate change lecture
DESCRIPTION:The Bitterroot Climate Action Group is trying something new— a public lecture using Zoom! The group will present Phil Higuera speaking on Thursday\, July 9 at 7 p.m. on “Fire and Climate Change in the West.” Higuera is an associate professor of fire ecology at the University of Montana\, where he directs the PaleoEcology and Fire Ecology Lab (www.cfc.umt.edu/research/paleoecologylab) and teaches courses on fire and disturbance ecology. Research in his lab focuses on understanding the interactions among climate\, vegetation\, and wildfire activity over a range of scales of time and place\, in the past\, present\, and future. Phil’s talk draws upon current scientific research that helps us understand the relationships between climate change and wildfire activity\, with a regional focus on the Northern Rockies. Topics include context from the past\, the causes and ecological impacts of recent increases in fire activity\, expectations for the future\, and what we can do in response. \nThis talk is free and open to the public\, however\, advanced registration is required; register here: https://tinyurl.com/FireAndClimateChange \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join the talk. To participate\, you will need a computer\, tablet\, or smartphone with a decent internet connection. If you have not used Zoom before\, log on 5 minutes early to make sure your device has the required software or app.

SUMMARY:NVPL Author Night
DESCRIPTION:Author Night with Edwin Dasso\, Medical Thrillers via Zoom. \nEdwin Dasso\, MD\, a USA Today and Amazon International #1 Best-Selling medical thriller author\, writes works of fiction that leverage many of his “stranger than fiction” experiences from years of practice at major medical centers and community hospitals. Ed is coming to the North Valley Library via Zoom on Monday\, July 20th at 6 p.m. \n“Do I Know You?” is the “Best thrill packed action adventure I have ever read.” Jack Bass\, MD: is a Lee Child’s Jack Reacher meets Marcus Welby. Sound confusing? Wait till you see inside Jack’s head! \nJack was shot while rescuing homeless veterans from an isolated slave camp. He was left clinically dead but was revived by a team of trauma surgeons. When he awakens\, he has significant\, but spotty\, amnesia. His friends and family take him abroad to help him recover but\, true to form\, Jack unwittingly stumbles into the middle of\, and thwarts\, a terrorist bombing plot. The terrorists are hell-bent on revenge! Jack fights to survive and protect his family\, all while he struggles to even remember who he is. \nFiction writing is reviving a lost love from earlier periods in Dasso’s life. In addition to several years as a practicing anesthesiologist and critical care specialist\, he has published articles in national healthcare journals\, written many “Ask the Doctor” columns and has spoken frequently at national health care forums. Edwin Dasso’s Jack Bass Black Cloud Chronicles Series is being developed into a TV series\, JACK BASS\, MD. Please register online at www.northvalleylibrary.org and click on the calendar. Find the event\, sign up and you will receive a Zoom link. Meeting the author online via Zoom. \nNorth Valley Public Library is located at 208 Main Street\, Stevensville\, phone 777-5061.
