Bitterroot Audubon’s will meet Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m.. at the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge Visitors’ Center on Wildfowl Lane north of Stevensville. The meeting will feature “The Difficulty of Becoming a Breeding Osprey,” a presentation on ospreys in the Bitterroot and Missoula valleys by Rob Domenech and Adam Shreading of the Raptor View Research Institute. Rob and Adam have been studying ospreys in our area since 2006, and have most recently been placing satellite GPS units on ospreys to enable real-time tracking of osprey migration to and from Mexico, Central America and the Gulf Coast. They have also discovered that becoming a breeding osprey is a difficult, time-consuming process. Their results should be fascinating for anyone interested in these magnificent fish-eating raptors. The presentation is free, and the public is invited. Contact Kay Fulton (360-8664) for more information.
