Retail size cap approved

By Michael Howell

A crowd estimated at over a thousand people turned out last Wednesday, April 12, to attend a public hearing before the Ravalli County Commissioners about proposed Interim Zoning Regulations concerning large scale retail sales and retail service establishments. Prepared for a possible overflow crowd in the County Commissioners' meeting room, a back-up arrangement had been made to use the theater at the Hamilton Middle School, a few blocks away. The back-up arrangement at the Hamilton Middle School was, however, quickly overwhelmed. Everyone was then ushered to the back-up for the back-up, the school gymnasium. The bleachers were filled as soon as they could be rolled out. Following a very orderly process, considering the large numbers of people involved, microphones and tables for the presiding officials were relocated and the meeting began only about 30 minutes late. Stolen service medals reissued

By Michael Howell

World War II Navy veteran John O'Bannon was honored last Tuesday, April 11, at a ceremony in Stevensville's Veterans Memorial Park, with the presentation of reissued military service medals to replace the original military decorations earned by O'Bannon for his service during the war. The originals were stolen from O'Bannon's Missouri home in 1968.

O'Bannon learned a few months ago at a veterans benefits assistance seminar hosted by Congressman Denny Rehberg's staff that his lost medals could be reissued. Rehberg was on hand Tuesday to make the presentation to O'Bannon. More...
