Retail size cap approved

A crowd estimated at over a thousand people turned out last Wednesday, April 12, to attend a public hearing before the Ravalli County Commissioners about proposed Interim Zoning Regulations concerning large scale retail sales and retail service establishments. Prepared for a possible overflow crowd in the County Commissioners' meeting room, a back-up arrangement had been made to use the theater at the Hamilton Middle School, a few blocks away. The back-up arrangement at the Hamilton Middle School was, however, quickly overwhelmed. Everyone was then ushered to the back-up for the back-up, the school gymnasium. The bleachers were filled as soon as they could be rolled out. Following a very orderly process, considering the large numbers of people involved, microphones and tables for the presiding officials were relocated and the meeting began only about 30 minutes late. Historic mission celebrates 165 years

A special Mass was held in the historic St. Mary's Mission church to celebrate the 165th anniversary of the founding of the Mission and the Stevensville community. The historic chapel was built in 1841.

Stevi Council approves Main Street contract

At the April 10 Stevensville Town Council meeting, it was decided by unanimous vote to authorize the Mayor to sign a contract providing $5000 to the Stevensville Main Street Association from the Town¹s General Fund for fiscal year 2005-6.

Stolen service medals reissued

World War II Navy veteran John O'Bannon was honored last Tuesday, April 11, at a ceremony in Stevensville's Veterans Memorial Park, with the presentation of reissued military service medals to replace the original military decorations earned by O'Bannon for his service during the war. The originals were stolen from O'Bannon's Missouri home in 1968.
O'Bannon learned a few months ago at a veterans benefits assistance seminar hosted by Congressman Denny Rehberg's staff that his lost medals could be reissued. Rehberg was on hand Tuesday to make the presentation to O'Bannon.

Stevi School Superintendent turns down contract extension

Stevensville School District Superintendent Dr. Dennis Kimzey has turned in a letter of resignation to school board members last week informing them that he would not be accepting the one year extension of his contract that the board had decided to offer him. The Board decided at its February 14 meeting to offer Kimzey an extension of his current contract for another year.
