Photo and pottery exhibits at Museum

The artist reception held last Friday at the Ravalli County Museum was well attended. Attendees got a chance to meet and hear from photographers Les Bury and Barbara Michelman as well as southwestern pottery collector Dr. Larry Strate. The photographs and pottery will be on exhibit at the Museum, located at 205 Bedford Street in Hamilton, from now through January. More...

Hamilton resident, Dr. Larry Strate’s collection of contemporary southwest Native American pottery and Kachinas is on display at the Ravalli County Museum in Hamilton. It is augmented by a display of more ancient pottery including pieces produced as long ago as 504 A.D. by the Anasazi, courtesy of Mike McEachern and the late May Vallance. Barbara Michelman, a philosophy graduate from UC Berkely, was also one of the first women in the film lighting union in Hollywood and worked in all the major studios. Two die is separate farm accidents

Five-year-old Justin “Toots” Ellesworth Witherell of Stevensville died Thursday, November 19, after falling from a farm tractor. The boy fell from the running board of a farm tractor on which he was riding and was struck by the rear tire of the tractor and died at the scene. According to Ravalli County Undersheriff Perry Johnson, following an investigation by the Sheriff’s office, the death was found to be accidental. The accident occurred on the 6800 block of Grandview Drive north of Stevensville. More...


Unsuccessful mayoral candidate arrested on felony intimidation charges

The recently unsuccessful candidate for Mayor of Hamilton, Michael Spreadbury, is being held in the Missoula County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail on charges of felony intimidation. He is accused of intimidating Bitterroot Public Library Director Nansu Roddy on the street in front of the library on November 4. Roddy succeeded in getting a permanent restraining order against Spreadbury last Friday in Hamilton City Court. Should he be released on bail before trial on the felony charge, the restraining order prohibits Spreadbury from coming within 600 feet of Roddy, her home, her workplace, or her vehicle. The order, issued by City Judge Michael Reardon, is effective for five years. More...


Save the pool committee formed

Unwilling to simply accept the closure of the Stevensville Swimming Pool due to budget constraints, members of the Park Board have formed a Save the Stevi Pool Committee that has already formed a plan to try and keep the facility open and make needed improvements. More...


Hamilton City Council

City settles lawsuit with Skyline Homeowners

The Hamilton City Council voted 5 to 1 to pay $45,000 to the Skyline Homeowners Association to settle a lawsuit filed by the organization over damage to Skyline Drive, a private road through the subdivision. More...


Banque Club to reopen

The Banque Club is set to re-open this Friday night. Dan Mitchell will be managing the downstairs bar. Although Ron Hale still owns the liquor license for the bar, Mitchell and his father, Al, will be running the operation. The two have hopes of creating a ‘Cheers’ type bar where everyone really does know your name. Al Mitchell said he has already staked out a chair at the corner of the bar and will only occasionally step behind it to help out. More...
