Hospital wins quality health care award

Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital (MDMH) is the 2009 recipient of Mountain-Pacific Quality Health’s (MPQH) Quality Achievement Award. Mountain-Pacific is the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii and Alaska and works under contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services to promote proven best practices and transform the way health care is delivered. This is the seventh year running for this awards program, which recognizes select hospitals throughout Montana for their commitment to ensuring their patients receive the highest quality of care in certain areas. This year’s focus was on heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and preventing surgical infection. Performance on additional patient safety initiatives as well as hospitals’ leadership qualities, which are characteristics of successful organizations, was also evaluated. More...

Church gets city support for grant

The Hamilton City Council passed a resolution of support for a grant application by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for funds to restore and preserve the outside of the church building. The church’s preservation committee hopes to tap into federal stimulus funds made available for historic preservation through House Bill 645. Disbursement of those funds is being administered by the state Department of Commerce. More...


Stevi water and sewer rates going up

Based on an analysis of the Town of Stevensville’s ongoing water and sewer operational and maintenance expenses, plus planned capital improvements over a projected five-year period, the town is looking at some potential rate hikes for both services. The recommended rate hikes for the water system include a 40 percent increase for the year 2010, another 30 percent hike in 2011, followed by 3 percent hikes in the following three years. The recommended hikes in sewer rates begin with a 45 percent hike in 2010 followed by 4.5 percent hikes in 2011 and 2012, followed by 3 percent increases in 2013 and 2014. More...
