Florence topped Darby at a rare Saturday afternoon game in Florence. It was Homecoming in Florence and the Falcons were ready to go. Unfortunately for Darby, several players were on the injured list and so the Tigers had only 19 players suited up.

Florence put the ball on the ground and in the air enroute to a 56-12 victory. Corbin Newbary scored first for the Falcons when he pushed through from two yards out for the score. Brother Zac Newbary kicked the PAT. Corbin Newbary also scored on an 85-yard kickoff return and a three-yard pass from Spencer Burns. Bryce Chacon had a one yard run and Riley Phillips caught a three yard pass form Burns in the third quarter. Cody Lund rounded out the scoring with scoring runs of 12 yards, 10 yards and 15 yards. Tanner Lund kicked two of the three PATs on those three touchdowns.

Darby’s Dalton Roundy had a 98-yard kicked off return for a touchdown. He also caught a 25-yard pass from Aaron Johnston for a Tiger touchdown.

It was Homecoming in Victor too. However the outcome wasn’t in the Pirates’ favor as they took on the Charlo Vikings. The Vikings defeated Victor, 58-0.

Hamilton traveled to Stevensville for the Battle of the Bitterroot on Friday. The Broncs went to their go-to guy, Cody Noffsinger for four touchdowns in the 46-7 win. Noffsinger had scoring runs of 19 yards, 15 yards, four yards, and five yards. He had a total of 192 yards on 31 carries.

Lady Broncs win at net

Hamilton topped Corvallis on the volleyball court Thursday in Corvallis. In spite of the inexperience of both teams, the play was fast and furious with several long volleys. Hamilton prevailed in three games but both teams put forth a valiant effort. The third game was played right to the wire with Hamilton winning the game, 26-24 and the match.

“Our intensity has been a bit low in our other matches,” said Hamilton coach DeEtte Monson. “We’ve been working on our placement. Tiffani Kemig has been doing really, really well on her placement serving. We kind of feed off of her.”

Kemig led the Broncs with six aces. The back row of Hamilton was also tough and dug up 70 balls in the match. Melissa Hood had 28 digs alone.

Amanda Jessop’s four kills and four blocks led Corvallis. Hamilton had talked about where Jessop hits the ball and how to shut her down. In the end, they moved the ball away from her to keep her from gaining momentum.

“They just outplayed us,” said first year coach Kasey Arceniega who played for the Blue Devils in 2000. “I knew it was going to be a battle. We won some really long rallies but they exploited our defense and put the ball where we weren’t. We just could not adjust quick enough.”

Arceniega, the former Kasey Smith, recognizes she has a young team and is working on building confidence and skills. She said she had to bring up a couple of junior varsity players because of illness but said her players were adjusting well.
