On Monday, March 10, the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant west of Hamilton in support of an investigation into the alleged neglect of various domesticated animals. With the assistance of the Bitterroot Humane Society, four chickens, three ducks, 17 head of cattle, three donkeys, one horse, 21 sheep and two yaks were seized. The Bitterroot Humane Society organized 13 volunteers to assist in the effort. The animals have been secured at various locations within the county and are now receiving proper food and care.
The seizure was the result of a month-long investigation and the Ravalli County Attorney’s Office has filed a felony complaint charging the owner with one count of Aggravated Animal Cruelty. The investigation to this point indicates that owner is a 74-year-old individual with failing health.
If interested in fostering any of the animals, contact the Bitterroot Humane Society at 363-5311, and to donate hay contact the Fairgrounds at 363-3411.
