BPAC concert series
Cellist and singer Ben Sollee will perform in concert on Saturday, October 26 at 8 p.m. at the Bitterroot Performing Arts Center in Hamilton as part of the 10th season series.
“. . .Sollee probably could have taken any instrument and found novel, even radical ways to use it. He’s got a bit of the rebel in him, and as a musician, he was inevitably going to find his own means of expression.”–Aspen Times
Known for his thrilling cello playing that incorporates new techniques to create a unique mix of folk, bluegrass, jazz and R & B, Ben Sollee possesses rough, smooth, smoky vocal stylings and a knack for intricate arrangements. Ben Sollee is an artist who shares himself completely with his audience, whether it be by personal lyrics, or his commitment to the environment. Sollee first gained major notice with his 2008 debut, Learning to Bend, which led NPR’s Morning Edition to call him one of the “Top Ten Great Unknown Artists” of the year. About that time, Sollee joined forces with Abigail Washburn, multi-Grammy winner Bela Fleck, and Grammy nominee Casey Driessen to form the Sparrow Quartet which toured world-wide. Ben Sollee’s music also drew the attention of My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, who produced his second full-length album, a collaboration with Daniel Martin Moore entitled Dear Companion. Ben Sollee’s latest release, Half-Made Man, is a revealing, deeply moving album that explores a man trying to figure himself out, just as we all are. Sollee is accompanied by a bass and percussion in concert.
