It’s always an unknown when rivals play, no matter what the sport. Thursday, on the Hamilton and Corvallis boys’ soccer team proved this adage. The Corvallis boys are a mature, well-balanced team that are big, strong and fast. Hamilton, on the other hand, starts five freshmen and is very young and inexperienced at the high school level according to coach Randy Lint.
The two teams battled but neither scored in the first half. That changed five minutes into the second half when David Feldman and the Hamilton crew took advantage of some miscommunication by the Corvallis team and scored a goal. It was one of the few times Hamilton pressed the Corvallis goal.
The majority of the match, Corvallis was on the attack and kept the Hamilton keeper, Casey Ryter, on his toes. Ryter had 10 saves and kept the Blue Devils scoreless. Hamilton had three shots on goal while Corvallis had 22. Shelby Gifford had two saves for Corvallis.
The Hamilton boys defeated Polson, 5-1, on Saturday. Feldmann had two goals and two assists in the match. He connected with Kyle Crossman at the seven-minute mark for the first goal. Feldmann scored again at 19 minutes and again at the 44-minute mark. His last assist was to Aidan Carmody at 78 minutes. Aldo Rodriguez scored for Hamilton at the 66-minute mark also.
Both Hamilton and Polson took nine shots on goal. Polson had three corner kicks and Hamilton had two. Ryter had two saves.
Stevensville continued their winning streak, topping Frenchtown, 5-0. Joseph Daniels scored three of the goals for the ‘Jackets. Daniels took a Chance Coleman pass into the net at the 13-minute mark. The duo repeated the feat at the 45-minute mark and then, at 60 minutes, Joseph Fecteau sent an assist to Daniels for the final Stevensville goal. Fectau also had an assist when Payden Belcourt hit the net at 14 minutes. Ian Perry had an unassisted goal at 36 minutes.
Stevensville took 15 shots on goal and had six corner kicks. Frenchtown had six shots on goal. Daniel Bradt had five saves for Stevensville.
Stevensville topped Loyola, 4-0. Although Loyola had more shots on goal, 16, than Stevensville’s 13 shots, the Yellowjackets were able to connect and take the win. Daniel Pendergast scored at the seven-minute mark off of an Ian Perry assist. Pendergast then made the pass to Quade Renstrom who hit the goal at 19 minutes. It was Pendergast again at 52 minutes. He took a Daniels pass in for the goal. Belcourt scored the final goal off a Curtis Liston assist at 57 minutes. Both Loyola’s keeper and Stevensville’s Daniel Bradt had nine saves.
The Corvallis boys defeated Frenchtown, 1-0. Cameron Ayers took a Justin Ruecker pass to the net for the goal at 28 minutes. Corvallis took 10 shots on goal while Frenchtown had five. Shelby Gifford had two saves.
Frenchtown defeated the Stevensville girls, 4-2. Stevensville scored first when Ali Ward sent a pass to Hannah Dishman at six minutes for the goal. Frenchtown’s Brooke Yarn all scored at 21 minutes. Four minutes into the second half, Kayla Peterson hit the back of the net off a Dishman assist for the Yellowjackets’ final goal. Pillar Field, Yarnall, and Taylor Johnson all had goals for Frenchtown.
Stevensville took 11 shots on goal and had four corner kicks. Frenchtown had five corner kicks and took 29 shots. Stevensville had 25 saves from keeper Evie Tiplady.
The Stevensville girls defeated Loyola, 6-0. Dishman and Peterson worked together for three of the goals. Peterson fed the ball to Dishman at four minutes, the 37-minute mark and again at 50 minutes. Beth Ulrich scored at 32 minutes and Sierra Leese took a Sylvie Coston assist at 74 minutes for a score. Coston also had the final goal at 78 minutes. Stevensville took 23 shots on goal and held Loyola to only three. Tiplady had two saves for the Yellowjackets.
Hamilton defeated Corvallis, 3-1. Bri Huggans scored at the three-minute mark. Corvallis’ Katie Landis scored at 20 minutes when she took a Katelyn Frost assist in for the goal. Nine minutes later, Hamilton took the lead for good when Brianna Abrahamsen scored off of a Sami Kratofil assist. Kratofil had another assist at 46 minutes when Kendal Gordon scored.
Corvallis had eight shots on goal and two corner kids. Kira Doyle had 11 saves, and Roxy Rademacher had for saves for Corvallis. Taylor Goligoski had three saves for Hamilton.
Hamilton defeated Polson, 7-1, on Saturday. The Broncs had five goals before Polson scored in the 43rd minute. Lilly Moore scored two minutes into the match off of a Karissa Pfantz assist. Huggans scored again at eight minutes and that was immediately followed by a Gordon goal off of a Moore assist. Kratofil scored at 13 minutes and Reilly Rostad finished out the half with a goal at 36 minutes off from a Kes Lehrman assist. Kratofil and Gordon teamed up for two more goals in the second half, one at 62 minutes and the last at 73 minutes. Hamilton took 22 shots on goal while Polson had five shots. Goligoski had four saves for Hamilton.
