DCPL Linux Sharing Group
Linux Sharing Group will meet every Friday in August from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Darby Community Public Library, 101 ½ S. Marshall.
Linux is the third most popular personal computer operating system in the world. At only 5% of the market, it is still uncommon – as is knowledge of it.
Certainly an obvious attraction is that Linux is free. Better, thousands of applications that run under Linux are also free and do nearly everything that the Windows and Mac software does. Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, video editing, design, and on and on. You want it, download it and put it to work. Free.
Best of all, it is lean and tight, making the most of your computing power without the baggage that the big boys build in. Interestingly, over 90% of the world’s fastest computers use Linux. Also, because of its design, Linux needs no firewalls and virus protectors running interference.

Modern conveniences have created a disconnect from these four elements and with her hands in clay, Belanger explores our human connection with these elements and our partnership in survival. Growing up along the river in Oregon and currently living along the river in Montana, Belanger has found peace in the natural world and the elements that sustain us. She loves clay and working with her hands. Combining these loves she is able to delve into her ideas and form them into visual pieces that extend the tranquility and quiet of the natural world to the viewer, guiding them to a place beyond the extraneous bustle of modern life.
