NVPL Kids Create Storytime
North Valley Public Library will hold Kids Create Storytime on Wednesday, June 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Kids Create is an enriching early learning program for toddlers and preschoolers. With a different theme each week, kids will hear entertaining library picture books, engage in fingerplays and songs and create a fun craft. At each storytime a healthy snack is provided and there is time to play and socialize with new friends. This week, celebrate new moms, babies and big brothers and sisters. BRASH safety training

Museum exhibit
“The Literature of Prescription” will open Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m. At a time when women were challenging traditional ideas about gender, Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote the story “The Yellow Wall-Paper.” She was told to “live as domestic a life as possible….and never touch pen, brush, or pencil as long as you live.” Embracing this struggle, Charlotte became an influential advocate for women and their rights, as well as a prolific author. This exhibit, courtesy of the National Library of Medicine, is enhanced with collections from the Museum, along with work of local artists Mary Byers and Laura Mae Jackson. The exhibit closes on July 11.

Bitterroot Audubon
Bitterroot Audubon will hold a special screening of the PBS program, “Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air” on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. in the Visitors’ Center at the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge north of Stevensville.
The National Audubon Society needs your help with their new Citizen Science program to monitor Hummingbirds, called “Hummingbirds at Home.” This is an opportunity for anyone who loves hummers to help them by observing and reporting data. The goal is to collect data that will help scientists and researchers understand how to protect and preserve these incredible flying jewels. As a kick-off to this project, Bitterroot Audubon Society has acquired a special edition DVD of the PBS NATURE program, “Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air.” Following this 50-minute film, BAS will provide you with the information you need to participate in the monitoring program. Bitterroot Herb Collective
The Bitterroot Herb Collective will meet Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m. at Youth Connections, 802 Main Street, Hamilton. Come and discuss your herbal needs and interests. There will be a showing of the film “Wonderful Weeds” which discusses over 35 wild plants and their everyday uses to address a variety of illnesses and conditions. Bring seeds, starts, or other items for trade. BHC is a group of gardeners, herbalists, healers and cooks who value herbs for healing, herbal products, how-to’s, and general information. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, June 7 at 12 noon at the Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. There will be a class on Constitutional War Powers and the Enemy Within. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each and is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.
‘Pint Night’ benefit
The Stevensville Main Street Association is hosting a Pint Night on First Friday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at Blacksmith Brewing. A portion of every beer sold will benefit the Business Professionals of America club at Stevensville High School and Raptors of the Rockies. Kate Davis, director of Raptors of the Rockies, is the featured artist of the month and will have a few of her feathered friends with her! Business Professionals of America is the leading career organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. The mission of Business Professionals of America is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. Art show
The Montana Professional Artists Association Show and Sale will be June 7-8-9 at the Bitterroot River Inn, Hamilton. This is the 9th annual all-member show and a gala artists’ reception will be held Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is free all three days. First Friday at Library
While you’re out strolling Main Street for June First Friday, stop at North Valley Public Library to listen to the Missoula-based band, Way Cool Music, on June 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Way Cool Music performs a variety of folk music to light rock, with vocals and guitar performed by Ron Bissell. Art opening
“Western Dazel” will be at River’s Mist Gallery of Fine Art in Stevensville for the month of June. Featured artists are Howard Knight of Rocking “K” Custom Leather and Antonia Wolf of Images by Antonia including photography, silk scarves and jewelry. Knight is regarded as one of the finest leather artists and designers in the country, is endorsed by Montana Circle of American Masters and is the leather crafter for Harley Davidson International. Wolf, a well known Missoula photographer, has traveled the world capturing breathtaking images and is in private, public and corporate collections across the United States. Mutt Strut
Attention all dogs: Get out and enjoy the great outdoors – grab your leash and your favorite person and head to the Mutt Strut on Friday, June 7 at 6 p.m. There will be and door prizes and you can find out who won the Bitterroot’s Biggest Loser (for pets) competition! Meet at the Stevensville Ranger Station on the corner of Main Street and Eastside Hwy. Metcalf Refuge weed pull
Join in a friendly competition pulling weeds to benefit wildlife on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge (just north of Stevensville) to help improve wildlife habitat. Last year volunteers pulled 2,500 pounds. This 9th annual free event offers a prize for the “most pounds pulled” and other door prizes. Bring water, gloves and be ready for rain or shine. The Hamilton Garden Club will hold a plant sale on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bell McCall Ford, 300 W. Beekeepers of the Bitter Root
Beekeepers of the Bitter Root will meet Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 116 Lewis Lane (east of Murdochs) in Hamilton. Discussion topics will be about what bees are doing as summer approaches, and when to add supers. Those who want to participate in close inspection of the Norman family’s beehives are invited to bring protective gear. Anyone interested in beekeeping is invited to attend and consider becoming a member. Family Fun Dance
Come boogie, play, create and celebrate great dads at the Family Fun Dance, Saturday, June 8 at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market. Kids’ games and family dancing begin at 9:30 a.m. on the Ravalli County Museum lawn. At 10:30, there will be free Father’s Day crafts for children to make. This annual fundraiser will include musical, vocal, comedy, and other local talent performed by friends of the center. Refreshments and a raffle will top the evening off. Cost is $5.00 at the door with all proceeds going to support the Senior Center’s general fund. Evergreen Kids Corner Cooperative Preschool will hold Summer Explorers camps starting June 10. Summer Explorers camps offer fun, learning experiences in half-day programs designed for the preschool and early-elementary child.
