Stockman Bank in Montana has once again been recognized on Forbes list of America’s Best-In-State Banks, ranking this year as the #1 bank in Montana. The ranking is based on an independent survey of over 26,000 customers in the U.S. The award list was announced on June 17, 2025, and can be viewed on the Forbes website.
Financial institutions serve as the foundation of the financial world, playing a critical role in maintaining the stability of global systems. America’s Best-In-State Banks 2025 aims to showcase the institutions most valued by residents in each state and to recognize the banks that have excelled in meeting the unique needs and expectations of their local communities. This is the second award Stockman has received from Forbes in 2025. The bank was recognized by Forbes as one of the World’s Best Banks in April.
“We are thrilled and honored to be recognized as the #1 bank in Montana on the Forbes list of Best-in-State Banks 2025,” said Bill Coffee, CEO of Stockman Bank.” This award is particularly special to us as the recognition is coming directly from Montana consumers who participated in the survey. It reflects the trust our customers place in us every day, as well as the dedication and expertise of our staff, who are committed to putting the needs of their customers and communities first. Our personalized approach to serving our customers, combined with innovative banking technologies has truly set us apart in Montana’s banking industry.”

The Bitterroot Valley Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting last week during the grand opening of Stockman Bank in Stevensville. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Stockman presented three local organizations with donations to help advance current projects. These organizations were Montana Trout Unlimited, Stevensville Playhouse for playhouse renovations and the Town of Stevensville for Lewis & Clark Park bathroom renovations.
For this year’s ranking, Forbes partnered once again with market research firm Statista to survey approximately 26,000 U.S. residents. Participants were asked to name and rate all the banks and credit unions where they currently have—and previously had—a checking or savings account, and to identify financial institutions they know through the experiences of friends and family. Respondents were asked to share their level of satisfaction with the bank or credit union, and their willingness to recommend it to others, and to rate the organization on such criteria as: customer service, the quality of financial advice offered by representatives, fee structures, ease of navigating digital services and accessing help at branch locations, and the degree of trust the financial institutions inspired. Lastly, for each bank and credit union, Statista collected online text reviews and ratings. This research accounted for 20% of the scoring while the surveys accounted for 80%.
