Brian L. Wareing
Florence, MT / Golden, CO – Our beloved son died at our home in Golden, CO on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the age of 58 from complications of diabetes. Brian had recently come to our Florence, MT ranch to upgrade his home here, but returned to Golden to do work on the house there which was to be sold.
Brian was born in Green Bay, WI, which was the first of several homes around the world for this military family. Brian was a good student and had a good education. Prior to starting school he lived in Japan, then Hawaii. He then attended school in North Platte, NE, Kincheloe Air Force Base in MI, then back to North Platte. He attended international school in Bangkok, Thailand in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, and in 7th grade was back in North Platte. He finished his high school education in Golden, CO and then moved to the ranch in Florence and got a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Montana. In his education years, Brian proved to be an exceptional athlete. He played first base for a junior baseball program and his team won first place for three years. However, his athletics ended in this senior year at Golden High while playing end on the football team. His knee was badly injured and was operated on by the surgeon for the Denver Broncos football team who told him he was starting out life with a 90-year-old knee.
In business Brian managed the ranch in Florence, MT. He then moved to Golden, CO where his parents resided and revived the house painting company he had started at age 16. This business was his primary company but he worked at other companies as well. He had an opportunity to return to Asia as a reporter for Soldier of Fortune Magazine and spent several years there. He headquartered in Bangkok but covered several countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. His reports on the Chinese/Vietnamese War were classics.
Brian returned from Asia with a Thai bride, however, the marriage didn’t last long and his wife returned to Thailand. Meanwhile, the business thrived and was expanded to include a pest control company. Also during this time, Brian continued to participate in the Montana family business and became a one-fourth owner of the LLC that manages the family business and ranch. As stated previously, recent plans were to help sell the house in Golden and return to Florence to be active in the family company.
Brian is survived by his parents, LaVere H. Wareing and Donna L. Wareing, his younger brother Bruce V. Wareing, and nephew Owen Wareing.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Dayspring Church in Florence. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.whitesittfuneralhome.com.
