It was a battle in Corvallis on Monday night between the Hamilton and Stevensville girls’ basketball team. On the line, a trip to the Class A state tournament in Butte. That tournament begins this Thursday.
The two teams battled with Stevensville leading throughout the game until the final minute of regulation play when Mckayl Rothie hit one of her two three pointers to tie the game at 42 and send the game to overtime. The two teams each sank a basket in the overtime period but it was Kyla Paulsen’s two free throws with 16 seconds left that put Stevensville up, 48-46. A last second shot by Hamilton’s Taylor Goligoski from almost half court hit the backboard but didn’t fall through the basket.
Stevensville’s Kayla Peterson set the tone for the Lady Yellowjackets with aggressive play early on which resulted in a couple of quick baskets. Peters finished with 17 points, including two three point buckets. Alycia Sims finished with 19 points. Hamilton’s Jaylee Albert led the Lady Broncs with 16 points. Goligoski was held to nine points.
