“We fought hard,” said Corvallis coach Joe Jessop. “That’s how we have to be. We don’t have lots of talent. We have to learn how to work hard and be together for 32 minutes. Tonight, we faced a much better, bigger, talented, stronger, faster team. The kids just flat out didn’t give up. Even all the way to the end when we’re down 11 or 12 points with 4 seconds left. There’s no quit in them.”
But the Yellowjackets used their speed and strength to create turnovers and convert those turnovers into points. By the end of the first half, the ‘Jackets were up by 11 points. They went on to win, 59-48.
Coach Keith Chambers of Stevensville felt his team didn’t really have their minds in the game at the beginning of the game.
“I think the mindset that we came with has probably got to change a little bit. We got it figured out in the third quarter, took us half a game to figure it out. Once we did that, we did all right.”
Stevensville had three players with double figures. Jared Schultz led all scorers with 15 points. Zach Gavlak added 13 points and Jesse Sims had 12 points. Chase Walker led the Blue Devils with 14 points.

Stevensville claimed the top spot in the Southwest A conference on Saturday with a win in Dillon over the Beaverhead County School. Stevensville pulled out to a 13-point lead at the end of the first quarter and then held off the Beavers to take the 52-46 win. Kadin Beller had 16 points to lead the ‘Jackets.

Corvallis fell to Anaconda, 52-48, on Thursday in a close game. After leading at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Devils were held to only five points in the third quarter. A 21 point fourth quarter narrowed the gap but time ran out before Corvallis could regain the lead.

The Hamilton Broncs split their games this weekend with a conference win over Anaconda on Saturday, and a loss to AA Hellgate on Thursday.
The game between the Copperheads and Broncs was close throughout with Hamilton taking the lead in the fourth quarter and holding on to win, 50-49. Reese Isherwood knocked down 18 points to lead the Broncs.
