Not even a peep

February 12, 2025 by Guest Post

by Thomas Tunny, Hamilton

Peep – peep, peep – peep, peep – peep… I don’t hear a peep out of any of our four Republican congressional members about what is going on with Trump‘s dismantling of the US government. Particularly upsetting to me is what he is doing to USAID.

My wife and I worked for 20 years in international schools around the world. We witnessed as a first line of American diplomacy the work of USAID staff members. I say first line because they were the ones who would respond most quickly to emergency needs in various countries. The work that they do from providing food and water to preventing famine and providing medical facilities to care for those in need is unequalled by any other country or agency. This action by Musk and Trump will be devastating to millions of people around the world who rely on American assistance.

There might be some corruption in an organization as vast as USAID, but it is the role of the US Congress to investigate and take corrective action… not to allow Musk, under Trump, to obliterate an entire organization that does so much good for the less fortunate around the world. This is the work of Elon Musk after the direction of Donald Trump who is afraid to be connected to this action.

Oh yes, and we are not hearing much of a peep out of Democratic congressional representatives either on any of these issues aimed at destroying the many good things that our government does.

Dems are cheering and screaming about USAID, and many more money funnels back to their membership to come.

He is dismantling the corruption that has been going on longer than my 65.5 years and I applaud them. It is widespread and they have only touched the tip of this fraud on the citizens of the USA and that includes you.

And you trust Trump because he is such an honest businessman who never lies? Because he is someone who never tries to grift or profit off of his status as president? Seriously? PT Barnum was sure right. 🙂
