The Victor Pirates opened their season on Thursday night with a strong showing against the Charlo Vikings. With new coach Drew Lewis at the helm, the Pirates poured in 20 points in the first quarter and then cruised to a 73-40 victory. Lewis has been the assistant coach for Victor for several years behind Jay Jagelski who is now the Missoula Sentinel coach. Four Pirates scored double figures with Randy Miller leading the way with 20 points. Matt Kittel had 17 points, followed by Kyle Ball with 16 and Corey Deering with 11 points.

The Victor Lady Pirates also have a new coach. Corvallis graduate, Drew Huls has taken over the coaching duties for the Lady Pirates. Although Charlo won, 42-40, the Lady Pirates played tough and kept the pressure up all through the game and led by five at the half. Ryanne Tracy had 14 points to lead Victor. Shai Scheffer had 11 and Haley Tillotson added 10.

Darby ventured to central Montana to the Harlowton tournament where they took on a couple of teams from that area. The Tigers defeated Bridger, 49-43. They scored 13 points in the final period to take the win. Sophomore Joe Caicedo scored 15 points to lead the Tigers and Tyler Morris added 12 more.

Saturday night, the Tigers took on Jordan in an evenly matched game. Darby continued their winning streak, dropping Jordan, 53-49. Wyatt Doyle had a breakout night for Darby, scoring 16 points and Caicedo once again scored 15 points.

The Lady Tigers were also at Harlowton and went up against a tough Bridger team in their first game. Although the two were tied at the end of the first half, a three point edge in the third quarter proved to be the difference for Bridger as they defeated Darby, 43-40. Keeley Ehmann had 12 points and Brianna Masses added 11 more for Darby.

Darby bounced back against Jordan and cruised to a 51-36 win. Ehmann and Lacey Dolcater each had 11 points but it was Julie Abrahamsen who led the team with 14 points.

Florence was in Manhattan where they matched up against a couple of tough teams from the south. On Friday, the Falcons matched up against Columbus, a team they had played a couple of years ago in the state tournament. This time, Florence took control in the second quarter, outscoring Columbus by 13 points and went on to win, 62-45. Aaron Ward dropped in 20 points and Rhett Baerlocher added 13.

Florence took on another powerhouse on Saturday night, Manhattan. The Tigers finished second in last years state tournament while Florence finished third so this was a possible preview of Saturday night at the state tournament. Florence took the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back. The Falcons won, 55-33. Ward led all scorers with 16 points and the Baerlocher brothers – Ryne and Rhett scored 13 and 12 points respectively.

The Lady Falcons were also in Manhattan and had a winning weekend. They took on Columbus, Friday, and won, 63-54. Three Florence players scored double figures; Megan and Courtney Byrne each had 13 points while Paige Bodner added 10 more. Ten Florence players scored in the win.

The Lady Falcons took on Manhattan on Saturday night. The Manhattan Tigers made it to the state tournament last year. Florence jumped out to an early lead and held off a surging Manhattan team to win, 63-56. Courtney Byrne had 13 points to lead the Lady Falcons and Megan Byrne added 11.
