Habitat for Humanity to offer low-cost home repairs

October 23, 2012 by Editor

Habitat for Humanity of Ravalli County will begin doing home improvements in partnership with qualified, low-income homeowners. The new program called A Brush with Kindness is aimed at providing minor exterior home improvements such as painting, minor repairs, and clean-up to low-income homeowners in need.

Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness has a goal to serve low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. The work is done by volunteers who use donated materials whenever possible. The homeowner must demonstrate need, willingness to partner with Habitat, and ability to repay a no-interest loan. Payments made by partner families are placed in a revolving fund to help ABWK serve others in need.

“A Brush with Kindness is part of Habitat’s larger Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative,” said Mike Kibler, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Ravalli County. “This initiative gives us a great opportunity to help more families in need, as well as have an impact on the entire neighborhood. Helping people repair and maintain their homes fits in seamlessly with Habitat’s core mission of making decent, affordable housing available to low-income families.”

Habitat for Humanity of Ravalli County is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with those in need. Habitat for Humanity sells houses at no profit, through interest-free loans. The purpose also includes education and community building. HFH of Ravalli County began in April 1998 as a Chapter of Missoula HFH. HFH of Ravalli County was officially approved as an Affiliate on June 1, 2005. As a Chapter and as an Affiliate, HFH of Ravalli County has built five homes for families in Hamilton, Darby and Corvallis. HFH of Ravalli County will be building the next two homes in Stevensville.

HFH of Ravalli County functions with a 12-member volunteer board and two part time paid staff – members – Executive Director & ReSale Manager. The office is located at 131 Old Corvallis Road, Hamilton.
