On Friday, September 29th, #4 Corvallis (all rankings from 406mtsports.com) lost to #2 Dillon, 12-27, in a battle of undefeated teams. Corvallis, now 5-1, took their first loss of the season, but they are still ranked #4 is the latest 406mtsports.com poll.
Corvallis started the game strong, as they took their first drive down to the 1 yard line, but failed to convert on 4th down and Dillon got the ball. Corvallis then stuffed a Dillon run and got a safety. After receiving the free kick, Corvallis drove into scoring position and kicked a field goal. They were up 5-0 and looked in command.
But Dillon took control from that point on, as Dillon’s Kee Christiansen threw three long TD passes, giving Dillon a 20-5 lead in the 3rd quarter. Corvallis responded with an Aydan Mayn pass to Gideon Boswell for a 33-yard TD that made it a one score game, 20-12. Corvallis had two drives in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t quite get it going. Then Dillon put together a 4 minute drive late in the 4th quarter to ice the game and win, 27-12.
Corvallis’s head coach, Josh McCrossin, was happy with his team’s performance, “It was a good game all the way through,” said McCrossin, “with momentum swings working both directions.” McCrossin continued, “It was a matter of being close but not close enough. Dillon is a well coached team that is poised to make a deep playoff run, and we’re setting our eyes on our next matchup in Hamilton and plan to continue getting better!”
Corvallis has a bye next week, then on October 13th they travel to Hamilton to take on the #1 ranked Broncs.
