Although the weekend began well for Corvallis, the Blue Devils hit a mid-season slump with their batting. Corvallis rallied from nine runs down against the always strong Butte Central Maroons in their first game on Friday. Pitcher Ashley Johnson gave up eight runs in the sixth inning to give the Maroons the 10-7 victory. But although they were down, the Blue Devils rallied and knocked in six runs in the finial two innings including a two-run home run by freshman Alex Price.
“You have to be excited for a freshman hitting the ball like that,” said coach Rich Borden.
Borden went on to say he was proud of the way his team rallied after the sixth inning even though he was disappointed with the defense that led to the Maroons’ explosion.
“We hate it when those things happen. That kind of stuff, against one of the top three or four teams in the state, you’re not going to win ball games.”
Ashley Johnson went 3-for-4 at bat with two RBIs. Price had three RBIs.
Corvallis took on Anaconda later Friday afternoon. Although they jumped out to an early lead, Anaconda scored eight runs in the final inning to win, 18-8. Alex Ewing had two doubles and was 2-for-4 at bat with four RBIs. Johnson also had a double and Gianna Schrock had two RBIs.
The Blue Devils made the trek to Polson and Ronan on Saturday. Polson defeated Corvallis, 13-1. Johnson took the loss for the Devils. Ewing had the only RBI. Ronan also topped Corvallis. The Maidens won, 7-4. Alex Ewing was on the mound. Tegan Elliot was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Hamilton also had a tough time with Butte Central. The Maroons won, 9-1. Rebecka Hood took the loss for the Broncs. Candace Dunagan was 1-for-3 with a double to lead the Broncs.
On Saturday, the Broncs also made the trip to the Mission Valley. Polson topped Hamilton, 15-4. Dunagan again had a double with two RBIs. Nicole Hood and Kendra Newton each had an RBI too. Ronan held off the Broncs in a batting battle, winning 18-16. Dunagan led the Broncs with two home runs and seven RBIs. Presley Chadwick was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Nicole Hood also went 2-for-5 with a double.
