Letters about the Legislature

February 21, 2023 by Guest Post

by Bob Williams, Stevensville

The next 90 day Montana Legislature meets in 2025.

Our current Montana Legislature is working with  Bills that will directly impact public school kids and teachers, landlords and renters, taxpayers, and many women.

You can go to the local newspaper with the most Letters to the Editor, from the widest array of authors, about Bills that are working their way through committee votes, then proceed to votes by the Montana House, and Montana Senate.

During the remaining days of this Legislature,  Bills with large impact will pass the House and Senate and go to Governor Greg Gianforte, and be signed, and become Montana Law. Some Bills will deal with what the Montana economy and business urgently needs, affordable housing. Some Bills will involve changing the Montana Constitution.

Ironically, up to now, the  local newspaper with the smaller number of readers, has become a kind of a newspaper of record regarding current Law making in Helena. With reporting about Bills in the Legislature. Also with broad based Letters to the Editor about actions by the Montana Legislature that will impact Montana in the years to come.

The Bitterroot Star, the local newspaper with the largest number of readers, has been publishing a rather small group of Letter to the Editor authors, who usually avoid writing about very important subjects being discussed, and voted on in the 68th Legislature in Montana.

As of February 22, 2023,  there will be 52 Legislative days until adjournment of the Montana Legislature.

It’s time to write and submit Letters to the Editor of the Bitterroot Star, that will focus on key current events in our Montana Legislature. Those Letters can be brief!

Maybe even time for an edition of the Bitterroot Star to feature informative, not long, Letters about the most important Bills in this Session of our Montana Legislature. For instance, the “six pack” tax Bills, some that will reduce future revenue supporting Montana government.
