Darby boys wins District 13C
The Darby Tigers may have moved to Class C this year but last year’s Class B track champions kept their same aspirations of winning another championship. The Darby boys ran away with the District 13C championship over the weekend in Missoula. They outdistanced Victor by 49 points. The top five in each event will advance to the Western C Divisional this weekend at the Corvallis Events Center.
Doug Raymer, last year’s Class B state champion in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 is on course to win those again. He handily won those races and added the 400 as well. Jeremy Campbell took the high jump as well as placing second in the 800 and 1,600. Matt Robbins won the 110 hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles. . Raymer and Campbell along with Cougan Kidd and Tyler Morris made up the winning 1600 relay team.
But it wasn’t just the first place finishers that allowed Darby to take first place. The Tigers had good performances from several other team members. Colton Johnston took second in the 200, second in the discus and third in the shot put. Sean Hansen finished fifth in the 800, fourth in the 1,600 and second in the 3,200. Garrett McCormack was fourth in the 800, fifth in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200. Morris was sixth in the 100 and Storm Wanstrath was sixth in the 200 and the shot put. Kidd was fifth in the 400 and fourth in the javelin. Devin Thomas was sixth in the long jump. Freshman Dawson Jakober finished fifth in the 3,200.
Victor’s Kyle Ball was a double winner. The high flyin’ junior won the 300 hurdles and the triple jump. Ball was second in the long jump and third in the high jump. He was second in the javelin behind teammate Kurt Manley’s throw of 167 feet. Manely also won the shot put and was fourth in discus. Tyler Coorough, who has struggled with injuries, won the long jump and finished third in the 100, third in the 200, and third in the triple jump. Zac Agee was fourth in the 100, third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Bryce Krout was fifth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the pole vault. Nate Bishop was sixth in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
The Victor girls finished second even without standout hurdler, Shai Scheffer who suffered a season ending injury a couple of weeks ago. Katy Brittle finished third in the 400, fourth in the high jump and long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Amber Ibey was fourth in the 100 hurdles, fifth in the 300 hurdles, and third in the high jump. Katie Boes finished fifth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 3,200.In the throwing events, Carlyjean Conley took third in the discus, Courtney Dillard sixth in the discus, and Natalie Liechty took fifth in the shot put. Julie Elkinton took second in the pole vault while Madison Richards tied for fourth with teammate Casey Dolon. Kaylee Yamaguchi was sixth in the high jump.
Darby finished fourth. Keely Ehmann was third in the 200 and second in the 300 hurdles in spite of taking a spill at the finish line. She also took second in the long jump. Heidi Heiland was fifth in the 100. Seanna Abrahamsen finished fifth in the 300 hurdles, fifth in the 800 and third in the 1,600. Tori Johnston was sixth in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

Florence was also competing in their own district championships. The 6B meet ran in conjunction with the 13C District meet at Big Sky High School in Missoula. The Florence boys finished in second place behind Ronan/St. Ignatius by 11 points. Dylan Reynolds won the 400, and the 300 hurdles. He was the anchor on the winning 1,600 relay team. Reynolds finished second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.
Brady Blomquist took second in the 100 and 200, third in the 400 and ran on the relay team. Tanner Cobbs was also on the relay team. He finished third in the 300 hurdles, second in the 110 hurdles, fourth in the 400. Madison Bolton won the 1,600. He was second in the 800 and third in the 3,200. He also ran a leg on the 1,600 relay. Tanner Lund finished fourth in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Brady Heffner was third in the 100 and fourth in the 200.
In the throwing events, Kyle Shorten took second in the discus. Ryan Mangun was fourth in that event. Justin Miller was fifth in the discus and the javelin. Aaron Ward was third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump.
The Florence girls finished second behind Ronan/St. Ignatius by eight points. Loyola’s Tawnie Kerr dashed Tess Porch’s hopes of a sweep in the sprints by edging out the Florence sophomore in both events. But that didn’t stop Tess. She won the 400 and also ran a leg on the 400 relay team. She also took third in the high jump.
Hannah Porch found her groove again in the triple jump, winning the event with a jump of 35’3 ¼. She ran the first leg of the 400 relay team. Hannah took third in the 200, fourth in the 400 and second in the long jump.
Hanna Sax also ran a leg on the 400 relay team. She also took first in the 300 hurdles. She was third in the 100 and fifth in the 200. She finished second in the 100 hurdles as well.
Jessica DesJarlais was the final Falcon to win an event. She took first in the discus with a throw of 109’9”. She finished third in the shot put. Rosie O’Brien ran the final let of the 400 relay for Florence. O’Brien also took third in the discus and second in the javelin. Callie Hunt took second in the high jump, third in the 300 hurdles, third in the triple jump and third in the 100 meter race.
