The Corvallis Blue Devils appear to be reaching their peak at the right time. After struggling with hitting for most of the season, the bats broke loose and their defense picked up in Butte at the Laverne Combo tournament.
Corvallis defeated Sidney, 9-2, on Saturday. Gianna Schrock went 3-for-4 to lead the Blue Devils. She had a double and two RBIS. Alex Ewing took the win after relieving Ashley Johnson in the second inning. Corvallis then went on to top Stillwater, 6-5. Johnson took the win. Whitney Jessop was 2-for-2. She had two RBIs and Schrock also knocked in a runner.
On Friday, Corvallis topped Havre, coached by former Florence coach Otto Thill, 86. Johnson and Ewing had the pitching honors with Johnson taking the win. Tegan Elliot went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Jessop had two RBIs and Ewing added another RBI. They then took on Browning and topped them in three innings. 26-4. Corvallis had 12 runs in the first inning alone.
Hamilton defeated Glendive, 12-2. The Hood twins, Rebecka and Nicole, had great defense and offence in the game. Rebecka only allowed two hits from the pitching circle and Nichole had a grand slam home run in the game. Hamilton also blasted Miles City, 11-1. Rebecka allowed only one hit in the four inning game. Freshman Taylor Goligoski went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and four RBIs. Senior catcher Candace Dunagan was perfect at bat, hitting 3-for-3 with a double along with an RBI.
On Saturday, the Lady Broncs split their games. They blasted Hardin, 22-2 and then lost to Havre, 8-1. Nichole Hood had a double and four RBIs in the game against Hardin. Goligoski had a double and an RBI. Rebecca Lyons also had a double for the Lady Broncs.
Stevensville split their games on Friday. They defeated Hardin, 15-8. Carly Vercruyssen was the winning pitcher. Megan Finley, Bailey Vercruyssen and Jenna Lockman each had two RBIs. Bailey was 4-for-4 in the game. Laurel defeated Stevensville, 12-4. Vercruyssen took the loss. Finley had a double and an RBI.
On Saturday, Glendive defeated Stevensville, 6-1. They then fell to Lewistown, 16-2.
Florence was at the tournament on Saturday where they lost to Libby, 4-0, and then defeated Stillwater, 11-4. Courtney Byrne had a home run in that game. The Lady Falcons swept Drummond on Thursday.
