People, not parties

October 4, 2022 by Guest Post

by John Grant, Hamilton

The Star does very good work reporting on the issues confronting the communities of the Bitterroot Valley; warts and all along with the positive happenings of our neighborhoods.

Then you get to the Opinion page which, weekly, reveals the vitriol of our political climate where bashing any who do not think exactly as any given writer opines is the dominant feature.

Vote Republican? Vote Democrat? Is one party so virtuously “correct” so as to obliterate the convictions of the other party?

Stop it! Vote for people not parties. For for character not ideology. Erase the extremism on either end of the spectrum. Extremism is fascism no matter where it lands.

Stop it!

Thank you John for your voice of reason. Nailed it. One of the top reasons we chose to leave the Bitterroot valley (but remain in Montana) was the constant bickering, name calling and overall nastiness on both sides. Vote the person, the character, ethics and what will help to contribute to the overall good for all who choose to call the lovely Bitterroot valley home. It’s now called the home of the “Bitterrooters” which is so sad. In all of our years living in Montana, I’ve never experienced such divisiveness..

I LOVE the. statement: Vote the person, the character, ethics and what will help to contribute to the overall good for all who choose to call the lovely Bitterroot valley home. If that Is the case, liberals would NOT be in office too many times nor would the “religious extremists” who think they have the right to tell you how to live. And if we had a recall feature in the Montana Constitution – we would have a way to get rid of them quickly. Great Idea Laurie. Lets vote out all DEMOCRATS in the state legislature and a few GOP tyrants and replace them with conservatives who are moderates and who represent ALL the people in the valley and THEIR views and voices.

So Helen, unless everybody thinks exactly as you do, get rid of them? And that would be your view of “conservatism”? Do you include evangelical Christians in your bundle or religious extremists?

I think the likes of comments such as yours were well covered in my original letter.

Might you share who your favorite conservative on the National political scene might be and describe for us the “character” traits you so admire?

Nice try Helen. Your hatred is showing again…..sigh! It’s really getting old. Aren’t you tired of yourself yet because you have nothing new or of value to add?
