Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen (BRBCH) and the Bitterroot National Forest are partnering on several trail clearing and maintenance projects taking place in July.
The first project was scheduled for July 1-3rd on the Mill Creek Trail on the Stevensville Ranger District. Volunteers and stock camped seven miles up the trail near Hoff Lake. Two crews did general trail maintenance including brushing and clearing trees from the Wilderness boundary up to the lake.
The second project took place July 5-7th at the East Fork Guard Station on the Darby-Sula Ranger District. Volunteers did general trail maintenance including clearing blow down and cutting and removing brush along the Sign Creek, Moose Creek, and Main East Fork Trails. Volunteers and stock camped at East Fork cabin.
The third project is scheduled July 15-17th at Boulder Creek on the West Fork Ranger District. The crew will be brushing and clearing trees and cleaning water bars. Volunteers and stock will be camping about seven miles up the trail.
The final project will occur July 22-23rd on the Upper Fred Burr Trail on the Stevensville Ranger District. Volunteers will do trail clearing and identification of trail work for future projects.
The public should be on alert and watch out for volunteer work crews and stock at these locations.

BRBCH was established more than 40 years ago and was one of the first chapters in the nation. Their goal is to ensure that stock users can continue to access backcountry and wilderness trails. The club annually contributes over 600 personal hours and 425 stock hours on projects, most on the National Forest, that create significant benefits for all trail users and for the natural resources.
