It’s too bad that Linda Schmitt of Corvallis didn’t correctly research the wonder drug, Ivermectin, winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for medicine or she would have never written her letter to the editor about Ivermectin and showed both her bias and ignorance. (Bitterroot Star, Nov. 10 edition). Here Linda – educate yourself:

Abstract: In 2015, the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, in its only award for treatments of infectious diseases since six decades prior, honoured the discovery of ivermectin (IVM), a multifaceted drug deployed against some of the world’s most devastating tropical diseases.
Since March 2020, when IVM was first used against a new global scourge, COVID-19, more than 20 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) have tracked such inpatient and outpatient treatments. Six of seven meta-analyses of IVM treatment RCTs reporting in 2021 found notable reductions in COVID-19 fatalities, with a mean 31% relative risk of mortality vs. controls. During mass IVM treatments in Peru, excess deaths fell by a mean of 74% over 30 days in its ten states with the most extensive treatments. Reductions in deaths correlated with the extent of IVM distributions in all 25 states with p < 0.002. Sharp reductions in morbidity using IVM were also observed in two animal models, of SARS-CoV-2 and a related betacoronavirus. The indicated biological mechanism of IVM, competitive binding with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, is likely non-epitope specific, possibly yielding full efficacy against emerging viral mutant strains.

…FDA approved for parasitic indications, the small molecule ivermectin has been the focus of growing attention in the last 8 years due to its potential as an antiviral. We first identified ivermectin in a high throughput compound library screen as an agent potently able to inhibit recognition of the nuclear localizing Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 (HIV-1)integrase protein by the host importin (IMP) α/β1 heterodimer, and recently demonstrated its ability to bind directly to IMPα to cause conformational changes that prevent its function in nuclear import of key viral as well as host proteins. Cell culture experiments have shown robust antiviral action towards a whole range of viruses, including HIV-1, dengue, Zika and West Nile Virus, Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus, Chikungunya, pseudorabies virus, adenovirus, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Close to 70 clinical trials are currently in progress worldwide for SARS-CoV-2. …The results that are available, as well as those from observational/retrospective studies, indicate clinical benefit. Here we discuss the case for ivermectin as a host-directed broad-spectrum antiviral agent, including for SARS-CoV-2.
And here Linda is another from Pub Med: Biochem J 2012 May 1; 443(Pt 3): 851–856. Published online 2012 Apr 16. Prepublished online 2012 Mar 14. doi: 10.1042/BJ20120150
Ivermectin is a specific inhibitor of importin α/β-mediated nuclear import able to inhibit replication of HIV-1 and dengue virus.
Linda, do you want to take back your statement that ivermectin doesn’t work on Viruses? Hmmmm? Want to change your mind about Ivermectin?

How about all you ignorant rednecks out there pledge not to use our healthcare system when you contract Covid-19? Since Covid-19 is “no big deal” ( according to Mike Miller ) and you’ve got the “wonder drug” Ivermectin ( according to Helen Sabin ) to fall back on when you get sick, you have no need to burden our healthcare system, do you?
So don’t. Publicly pledge that you WILL NOT seek medical care when you contract Covid-19 and that you will take care of this pesky little virus all by yourselves.
Can any of you do that? Or are you all cowards with no courage of your convictions? I’m guessing it’s the latter but here’s your chance to prove me wrong! Make the Pledge!

Thank you Helen for presenting the truth. All of this information is available on the NIH site.
Many powerful, rich and famous people who had Covid recovered (including many in top political positions here in the US) because they used ivermectin.
Keep up the good work.

The plural of anecdote is never data. Also, another point to consider. We keep hearing how “98% of all those who contract COVID survive!”. Okay, fine. But that also means 98% of the “rich, powerful and famous people” you referenced were going to survive COVID whether they took ivermectin, Bayer Aspirin or lived on a diet of broccoli soup and cheese crackers for a month too., right?

“Ivermectin: How false science created a Covid ‘miracle’ drug
Dr Kyle Sheldrick, one of the group investigating the studies, said they had not found “a single clinical trial” claiming to show that ivermectin prevented Covid deaths that did not contain “either obvious signs of fabrication or errors so critical they invalidate the study”.
Major problems included:
The same patient data being used multiple times for supposedly different people
Evidence that selection of patients for test groups was not random
Numbers unlikely to occur naturally
Percentages calculated incorrectly
Local health bodies unaware of the studies”

David,
Shame on you! Just because you disagree with Helen Sabin there is no reason to call her filthy and disgusting names. The women in your life must be real proud of you. I hope the Bitterroot Star will remove your comment and ban from now on.
