Saturday, October 16 is the final Saturday Series with presenter Claire Charlo. In honor of the Bitter Root Salish Tribe, Claire’s talk is titled “Resilience and Art.” She is a direct descendent of Chief Charlo.
Claire is a member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes. She grew up on the Flathead Reservation and was homeschooled by her parents. She learned cultural lessons on medicinal plants, the Salish language, beading, tanning deer hides to make regalia and moccasins. Claire’s father is Victor Charlo who introduced her to poetry at a young age. She graduated from the University of Arizona School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. Claire works as a Civil Advocate with the CSKT Defender’s office. In her spare time, Claire beads jewelry, writes poetry/short articles, organizes awareness for Murdered Missing Indigenous Relatives, and is a Land and Water Protector.

Historic St. Mary’s Mission and Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for guided tours. The 2021 season ends on October 16.
