Saturday Series at St. Mary’s

On Saturday, September 25 Historic St. Mary’s Mission and will celebrate 180 years. Join us for a presentation on Fr. Pierre DeSmet, S.J. who founded St. Mary’s Mission in 1841. Fellow Jesuit, Fr. Craig Hightower, will speak on the remarkable Fr. DeSmet in St. Mary’s Chapel at 11 a.m. Mass will follow at 12 noon in recognition of the invitation by the Salish Indians to the Jesuit Missionaries to come into their Bitterroot Valley homeland.
Fr. Hightower belongs to the same order, the Society of Jesus (S.J.), as Fr. DeSmet and has great respect for the 19th century missionary.  Plus, Fr. Hightower, as pastor at St. Ignatius Parish on the Flathead Reservation, has a special connection to the Salish Tribe.

Historic St. Mary’s Mission and Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for guided tours.
