The Lady Blue Devils topped Butte Central in volleyball on Thursday. Although the games were close, Butte Central did not win a game in the match.
Corvallis had a slow start and had to play catch up for most of the first game. They trailed by as many as six points before Katelyn Behner stepped up to serve. She nailed two aces and kept the ball in play enough that there was only a two point difference. The Maroons kept up the pressure and surged ahead again until Behner once again started serving. She had another ace and Corvallis went on to win Game 1, 25-23.
Coach Laurie Jones said she did expect her team to come back after a slow start. “We’ve been working on that and I think we’ll get it by the end of the season.”
It looked as if the Blue Devils had found their groove in the second game. Hailey Anderson served up eight points including a couple of aces and Brooke Powell had a monster block. Corvallis won the second game, 25-13.
Game 3 was tight throughout the game with each team trading aces, and kills. Corvallis led most of the game and finally pulled ahead when Powell made another block and then served up an ace. Corvallis won, 25-20.
“They have been sticking in there and coming back when they need to,” said Jones. “I told them this is probably one of the better games as far as everyone really stepping in and playing as a team.”
Madeline Gilder had 16 kills and the team total was 26. Jenna Jordan had three blocks and the team had four blocks. Powell had 11 of the Blue Devils’ 34 digs. Powell also had 17 assists. Behner had four aces and the team finished with 14 aces.
Corvallis defeated Hamilton in three games on Saturday.
