Response to Linda Schmitt

September 1, 2020 by Guest Post

By Ron Marshall, Victor

In response to Linda Schmitt’s letter of Aug. 18, 2020: You state that “my only position is that he wants to sell candy-flavored nicotine based addictive vaping substances to kids.”

Where to begin with that? Let’s start with the facts. In 2015, I worked with the State legislature to pass SB66. That bill made it illegal to sell vaping products to minors. Yes, we, the business owners, worked to pass it. Montana was the first state in the nation to do that, even before the Federal government. Last session we moved legislation that would have put severe penalties on ANYONE selling tobacco or vaping products to minors, HB266. This is all on the record. Feel free to look it up at leg.mt.gov.

If you would ever want to discuss education, affordable housing or healthcare, I’m all ears. I would also love to discuss taxes and the increases the Democrats want. Public lands and access to them. Bureaucratic overreach is another. Wasteful spending by state agencies that include things like first class airfare on the taxpayers’ dime. $600 a day at high-end coffee shops. Trips to SeaWorld and 4- and 5-star hotel stays.

The people of Ravalli County and the people of HD 87 do not deserve this. They don’t deserve the environmental terrorism of the Friends of the Bitterroot stopping any Forrest management plan so that maybe, just maybe, we won’t have to watch our lands burn.

My position? It’s way more than you know.
