Time to voice critical concerns

July 22, 2020 by Guest Post

By Greg and Wendy Job, Stevensville

Corona, masks and recall, oh my, there sure is a lot going on in Stevi! For all city and county residents, be informed an application has been submitted to the Town of Stevensville for a proposed NEW subdivision and commercial complex northwest of Middle Burnt Fork Rd and Logan Lane. The proposal is for a 57.68 acre tract to build 78 single family homes, 43 multi-family units, and 16 commercial lots. The development is named Burnt Fork Estates (BFE). The new development will abut to Creekside Meadows, Phase I, which has only single family homes. BFE is totally separate, has different covenants, and is more than twice the size of Creekside Meadows especially when adding in multi-family lots. There is a long list of negative aspects with this new development impacting not only city but county residents. The developers want to open up Creekside Meadows’ streets for their residents to use as BFE will have only one residential access onto Logan, a narrow two lane secondary road with no shoulders. Their commercial businesses will have a separate access on Middle Burnt Fork Road. Think about the number of cars entering and leaving Logan Lane between the Eastside Highway and Middle Burnt Fork Rd. The potential for vehicle accidents will be tremendous. If you need to get to work on time, take kids to school, go shopping… it will be a mess. The impact on the city’s water supply is of great concern, as with the school system, police and fire services. City taxpayers will shoulder a lot of cost for this development. Will 16 commercial lots rob the city of businesses that are better for the historical down town? The BFE application, 122-page document, is on the town website for you to read or ask the town clerk for a copy although there sadly is cost. Slamming through a high density subdivision for profit is not what Stevensville needs. This proposal will destroy the peaceful, country feel we now have on the east side of town. Mayor Dewey, Town Council Members listen to your constituents. Don’t let such an unreasonable development ruin our way of life.
