The Montana Class A state soccer tournament is set to begin this week, and the soccer teams from Corvallis, Hamilton, and Stevensville are in the thick of the action.
The Bitterroot Valley schools are in the Class A Southern Division with Polson, Frenchtown, and Missoula Loyola (girls only). The other two divisions are the Northern and Eastern. The top three teams in each division qualify for the postseason.
In the boys Southern Division standings, Polson won the division, Hamilton took second, and Corvallis took third. For the girls, Hamilton won the division, Polson took second, and Stevensville took third.
Every year in the Class A state soccer tournament one division’s second and third place teams have a play-in game. This year it’s the Southern Division’s turn. So for the Southern boys play-in game, Hamilton hosted Corvallis on Tuesday, Oct. 13. For the Southern girls play-in game, Polson hosted Stevensville on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Hamilton girls went 9-0-1 in division play, won the Southern Division title, and is the South’s #1 seed in the state tournament. Hamilton hosts the second seed from the Northern Division, Columbia Falls, on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. Columbia Falls and Hamilton played way back on Aug. 28, with Columbia Falls winning 7-2.
The Stevensville girls went 3-2-5 in division play and took 3rd in the division. They played in the Southern Division play-in game on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Polson (see bitterrootstar.com for the result). The winner of that game hosts Park, the two seed from the Eastern Division, on either Oct. 16 or 17.
The Hamilton boys went 5-2-1 in division play and took 2nd in the Southern Division. The Corvallis boys went 3-1-3 in division play and took 3rd in the Southern Division. The two teams played in the Southern Division play-in game on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Hamilton (see bitterrootstar.com for the result). The winner of that game hosts Park, the two seed from the Eastern Division, on either Oct. 16 or 17.
Last week’s soccer results
The final Class A soccer regular season games were last week, below are the results for the Bitterroot Valley teams.
The Corvallis boys and girls hosted Stevensville on Tuesday, Oct. 6
In the girls game, the two teams tied 0-0. In the boys game, Corvallis defeated Stevensville 2-1.
Corvallis then played at Polson on Saturday, Oct. 10. Corvallis lost 0-3 in both the girls and boys games.
The Stevensville boys and girls hosted Hamilton on Thursday, Oct. 8. Hamilton won 3-2 in the boys game, and in the girls game the two teams tied 1-1.
Earlier in the week, the Hamilton boys and girls hosted Frenchtown on Tuesday, Oct. 6. In the girls game, Hamilton won 8-0. In the boys game, Hamilton won 3-1.
