Hamilton defeats #3 Frenchtown
The Hamilton football team traveled to Frenchtown on Friday, Oct. 2, to face the defending Class A state champion and #3 ranked Frenchtown (406mtsports poll) in a battle of the Broncs.
Hamilton fell behind early and trailed 0-10 at halftime. Then in the third quarter, Hamilton QB Cooper Weston hit RB Jude Widmer for a 21-yard pass and catch and Hamilton trailed 7-10. After a Frenchtown touchdown, Weston scored on a 5-yard quarterback keeper, and Hamilton trailed 14-17. Then Frenchtown added a field goal on their next drive, and Hamilton trailed 14-20 with just over five minutes left in the game.
On Hamilton’s next possession, Weston scored again on a 4-yard quarterback keeper. Hamilton’s PAT was good, and with a minute left in the game, Hamilton led 21-20. Hamilton’s defense stopped Frenchtown on their final drive and Hamilton won 21-20.
Hamilton is now 4-1 on the season; their only loss a 28-29 heartbreaker against #1 Whitefish on Sept. 4. Hamilton hosts Dillon this week on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
#4 Darby falls to #5 Superior
The Darby football team hosted #5 Superior in Darby on Friday, Oct. 2, in a battle of top 5 undefeated 8-man football teams.
Darby was slow out of the gate and trailed 6-28 after the first quarter. Darby was able to right the ship, but dug itself too big of a hole, and was unable to climb out, and Darby lost 26-56.
For Darby, Jordan Browning had 32 yards rushing and a touchdown, and caught five passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Also for Darby, Reagan Christopherson had 59 yards rushing, and Gavin Anderson had a touchdown reception. Christopherson led the Darby defense with 11 total tackles.
Darby is now 5-1 on the season. This week Darby hosts a solid Seeley-Swan (5-2) team on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
#2 Falcons wallop Wardens
The Florence football team hosted Deer Lodge on Friday, Oct. 2. Florence scored 27 points in the first quarter against the over-matched Wardens and took a 42-0 lead into halftime. It was more of the same in the second half as the Falcons coasted to a 62-0 victory.
Florence’s Christian Englund had a big game. The senior lineman and linebacker had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, a 14-yard touchdown run, a 38-yard fumble return for a touchdown, and eight total tackles on defense.
Also for Florence, Lee Blair had a 52-yard touchdown run, Luca Calderone had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown and an 18-yard touchdown run, and Jake Schneiter had a rushing and passing touchdown.
Florence is now 4-1 on the season, and travels north this week to play at Eureka (3-3) on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
Butte stymies Stevensville
The Stevensville football team hosted Butte Central for its homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 2. Stevensville was unable to contain Butte’s offense and fell 7-55. Stevensville’s touchdown came on a Luca Schmidt pass to Michael Novak.
Stevensville is now 2-3 on the season and hosts Bitterroot neighbor Corvallis on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
Beavers best Blue Devils
The Corvallis football team played at Dillon on Friday, Oct. 2. Corvallis had trouble stopping Dillon’s offense and lost 14-46. For Corvallis, QB Branson Bucholz had 98 yards passing, RB Ayden Spencer had 49 yards rushing including a touchdown, and WR Hogan Buhler had 44 yards receiving.
On defense for Corvallis, Marshall Jessop, Payton Lewis, and Aidan Emerson each had 8 total tackles.
Corvallis is now 2-3 of the season and travels north this week to face Stevensville on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
