Local business organizes 5K/Brew Fest to benefit Stevi athletics

A local Stevensville business is organizing a 5K and Brew Fest to raise money for Stevensville High School. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise enough money so that Stevensville High School students can attend home varsity events for free.

Nicholas Burgess, the owner of Discovery Fitness in Stevensville, is the main organizer of the event. “Our family wants to contribute to the town’s success and entertainment,” said Burgess. “We felt that our property on Main St. offers a great location to host something fun that can give back to the community. Discovery Fitness has many Stevensville student athletes as members, so we thought a 5K that could raise money for them could be a great event.”

The 5K and Brew Fest will take place on Friday, September 4, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The 5K will start in the parking lot of Discovery Fitness at 407 Main St. and will end next door at the corner of Ravalli St. and Main St. where the Brew Fest will be held.

“The 5K isn’t necessarily a race,” said Burgess. “We won’t be timing anyone or awarding winners. It’s simply a fun, fundraising, community event where people can walk or run with their friends and community. My wife and I will be pushing a stroller. I hope many others will bring their kiddos along with them, then reward themselves with cold beer and good food.”

The Brew Fest will start after the race and feature many local beer vendors. “Blacksmith Brewing in Stevensville has been a big help with organizing beer vendors,” said Burgess, “so their brews will be flowing. Bitterroot Brewing Co in Hamilton, Smelter City out of Anaconda, Draught Works from Missoula, Great Burn from Missoula, and more will be featured.”

This community and family-friendly event will include multiple food vendors as well as yard games like cornhole, giant Jenga, and Connect Four. Finally, Joan Zen will perform live music during the Brew Fest. “Their music is fun and dance-worthy,” said Burgess, “so it should create good vibes.”
