I am a volunteer at Hamilton’s Haven House Food Bank. As a result, I have witnessed first-hand the need of our neighbors for a source of extra food during these hard economic times. While we are grateful to have food banks in Hamilton, Darby, and Stevensville, there is still a need to keep these shelves stocked for our neighbors. Never underestimate the gift of your donation of food or cash to help us help each other.

Could you share some of the parameters for giving? I assume you take canned goods. Do they need to be checked to make sure they are not expired? Same for any dry goods. Do you take frozen food? Does it have to be commercially processed? Do you take meat? Does it have to be professionally processed? Does it have to be processed within a certain timeframe?
People need to know these things. Also, can you call a number to arrange to drop off? (especially for frozen food) Or are there hours of operation that can be shared?
We have very generous people in this valley. I am sure this information will help them know how to help.

Dear SRK — I am SO sorry for the delay in responding to your GREAT questions! All of your questions can be answered by going to the havenhousefoodbank.org website. That site describes exactly how donations can be made and what services they provide. Every day I work I am astonished at the amount of food that goes out to people in our community that need this help. Thanks for your interest!
