The four Bitterroot Valley softball teams (Corvallis, Florence, Hamilton, and Stevensville) had a busy week last week. Many had regular games during the week, then each team played in the Bette Paskey Memorial Tournament in Frenchtown over the weekend. Each team had two games on Friday, May 1, and two games on Saturday, May 2.
The tournament consisted of 16 teams (all Class A except Class B Florence) from all over Montana. The tournament gave the Bitterroot Valley teams a chance to compete against schools outside of their conference as a warmup for the postseason.
The Hamilton girls continued their dominant play and went 4-0 at the tournament. Class B Florence proved they belonged amongst the Class A schools as they went 2-2. Both Corvallis and Stevensville went 1-3 at the tournament. See the results below.
Hamilton 8, Fergus 0
Hamilton defeated Fergus 8-0 on Friday, May 1. Hamilton pitcher Mariah Johnson got the win; she pitched all seven innings, struck out 13 batters, and only allowed two hits. Johnson also went 2 for 2, hit a home run and had three RBIs. Brooke Savage hit a three-run home run.
Hamilton 9, Libby 5
Hamilton defeated Libby 9-5 on Friday, May 1. At the plate for Hamilton, Coco Vachon went 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Addalyn Henderson and Tayleigh Bakken each had 2 RBIs. Mariah Johnson pitched five innings for the win.
Hamilton 8, Laurel 3
Hamilton defeated Laurel 8-3 in their first game on Saturday, May 2. Mariah Johnson got the complete game win and struck out nine batters. Tayleigh Bakken hit a home run with three RBIs, and Addalyn Henderson had 3 RBIs.
Hamilton 6, Lockwood 0
Hamilton defeated Lockwood 6-0 on Saturday, May 2. Mariah Johnson got her fourth win of the weekend – she allowed only three hits and struck out 14 batters over seven innings. Dawsyn Ekin went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Brooke Savage went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Florence 18, Browning 0
Florence defeated Browning 18-0 in three innings on Friday, May 1. Florence pitcher Elizabeth Camp didn’t allow a hit in three innings and struck out four batters. Jaden Fisher hit two home runs and had five RBIs. Maggie Schneiter had a home run and five RBIs.
Florence 6, Billings Central 10
Florence lost to Billings Central 6-10 on Friday, May 1. For Florence, Maggie Schneiter went 3 for 4 and scored two runs. Elizabeth Camp went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Anya Stokes had two RBIs.
Florence 15, Ronan 6
Florence defeated Ronan 15-6 on Saturday, May 2. Taylor Pyette went 4 for 4, hit a home run, and had three RBIs. Jaden Fisher and Morghan Adams each hit a home run.
Florence 3, Frenchtown 9
Florence lost to host Frenchtown 3-9 on Saturday, May 2. The game was tied 3-3 until Frenchtown scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth. For Florence, Maggie Schneiter and Taylor Pyette each hit home runs.
Corvallis 10, Havre 16
Corvallis lost to Havre 10-16 on Friday, May 1. For Corvallis, Ella Daly and Libby Jessop both went 2 for 2, scored two runs, and had three RBIs. Brooklyn Cary went 2 for 4 and scored two runs.
Corvallis 3, Fergus 8
Corvallis lost to Fergus 3-8 on Friday, May 1. Corvallis pitcher Brooklyn Cary struck out eight batters. Cary also scored a run and had an RBI. Ella Daly had an RBI, and Natalie Jolley went 2 for 2 and scored a run.
Corvallis 1, Libby 6
Corvallis lost to Libby 1-6 on Saturday, May 2. Corvallis pitcher Brooklyn Cary struck out 11 batters. Ella Daly went 3 for 3 and scored a run, and Libby Jessop went 2 for 3.
Corvallis 16, Browning 0
Corvallis defeated Browning 16-0 in three innings on Saturday, May 2. Brenna Bear went 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Natalie Jolley went 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Kirsten Race went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Stevensville 2, Columbia Falls 12
Stevensville lost to Columbia Falls 2-12 on Friday, May 1. For Stevensville, Maddix Yeager hit a two-run home run, and Emma Tan and Olivia Hanson each had a hit.
Stevensville 9, East Helena 8
Stevensville defeated East Helena 9-8 on Friday, May 1. Stevensville pitcher Maddix Yeager struck out eight batters and got the win. Khloe Frost hit a three-run home run. Emma Tan hit a home run and scored three runs. Yeager had three RBIs.
Stevensville 4, Fergus 19
Stevensville lost to Fergus 4-19 in three innings on Saturday, May 2. For Stevensville, Molly Davids had two RBIs, and Olivia Hanson had an RBI.
Stevensville 6, Libby 8
Stevensville lost to Libby 6-8 on Saturday, May 2. For Stevensville, Ciara Des Jarlais had two RBIs. Aisleigh Lenahan went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Khloe Frost went 2 for 3 and scored a run, and Scarlet Lattin went 1 for 1, scored a run, and had an RBI.
