Garden Club
The Stevensville Garden Club will meet Wednesday, March 1 (first Wednesday) at 1 p.m. in the Community Baptist Church, 409 Buck Street, Stevensville. Ash Wednesday service
Our Savior Lutheran church is observing Ash Wednesday traditionally with the imposition of ashes. All are welcome to join the members of Our Savior on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in a service of confession and absolution as we enter the Lenten season. Ashes will be available to those who wish to wear their ashes during the day. Call the church office after 8:30 a.m. to make arrangements to meet Pastor Eckert. Our Savior, affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, is located at 184 Pine Hollow Road. Approximately one mile south of the Burnt Fork Market, turn east on Pine Hollow. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, March 3 at 12 noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. There will be a showing of the documentary “Torchbearer” in which “The Duck Commander” Phil Robertson makes a compelling argument on the absurdity of life without God. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.
Lunch Time Learning
Discussion of early season crops, including sowing, cultivation, harvest and preservation, will be the topic at Lunch Time Learning on Friday, March from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at The O’Hara Commons & Sustainability Center, 111 S. 4th Street Hamilton. For information call 406-240-1768.
First Friday at library
Talented pianist Russell Perri will perform at the North Valley Public Library in Stevensville on Friday, March 3 at 6 p.m. Russell performs hit songs from Elton John, Billy Joel, the Beatles and others including original pieces. The local singer, songwriter and pianist has been teaching music in the Bitterroot for over 25 years, and been part of the music industry for 40 years. This free event will be held in the main library, due to the community room renovation project. The library will be closed for borrowing and computer use at 6 p.m. First Friday events are held in conjunction with the Stevensville Main Street Association. Stevensville Playhouse production
The Stevensville Playhouse will present “All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten” based on Robert Fulghum’s best-selling book and adapted by Ernest Zulia. This show takes a funny, insightful, heartwarming look at what is profound in everyday life. It’s an evening of theatrical storytelling in revue format, with monologues, dialogues, and multiple voice narration, enhanced through the use of live piano underscoring, which provides fluidity, charm, and emotional texture. These stories celebrate our very existence, from the whimsy of childhood to the wisdom of old age. This is a sure hit for almost any age group. Dances of Universal Peace
The Dances of Universal Peace will have a Spring Gathering on Friday, March 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1720 N. 1st Street, Hamilton, located in the Selway Shopping Center just north of Sears. Dancers, beginners and old timers, are invited to join in simple circle dances from the world’s spiritual traditions with live music, and easy instructions. This Dance’s theme is “Standing Firm in our True Nature.” This is a scent-free event. Refreshments and visiting afterwards. Seed sharing event
The O’Hara Commons is hosting an event for gardeners interested in sharing from their seed collection on Saturday, March 4 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sort through your seed collection and bring the excess to share with other gardeners. Boots & Calico Square Dance Club will have Ray Dunbar calling a dance on Saturday, March 4. Don Scheline will be providing the Round Dance music. Golden Age Winter Warm-up
Golden Age Club is having a Winter Warm-up on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m. The club will serve a chicken dumpling dinner with salad and coffee. Desserts will be potluck. Following the dinner the Square Dance Club will give a square dance demonstration. The “slightly famous” Jammers will play music throughout the afternoon for dancing or listening. Card tables will be available for a game of cards or your favorite table game. Music and dancing will begin after the square dancers and continue until about 4 p.m. Admission is $6.00 per person. Fishing Film Fest
Join anglers from across the area for an evening of homegrown fly-fishing films at the Montana Fishing Film Fest on Sunday, March 5, at the University of Montana’s Dennison Theatre. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the event starts at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $12, but students with a valid Griz Card pay $10. Tickets are available in advance at Missoulian Angler, Grizzly Hackle, Blackfoot River Outfitters, as well as at the venue the day of the show. According to the website, the film fest is created by serious Montana anglers, for serious Montana anglers. It focuses primarily on Montana films but is open to other trout-fishing films that exemplify the notion of fishing close to home, wherever that may be. To the event creators, fishing films are about having heart and having a good time, and then wanting to go out there and do it for yourself. Bitterrootdalen Lodge, Sons of Norway, will meet Tuesday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 275 Hattie, in Hamilton. Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot
The monthly meeting of FFB will be Tuesday, March 7 at BJ’s Restaurant in Hamilton. The social hour is 6 to 7 p.m. with cocktails/dinner optional. There will be a great raffle and the usual fish stories! This month’s presenter is Willi Cannell from Solitude River Trips. Willi was chosen as one of the “Best Outfitters on Earth” by National Geographic Society’s Adventure Magazine and 2006 Orvis endorsed “Expedition of the Year.” The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is the west’s most rugged wilderness cutthroat trout fishery. Willi has been a guide on the Middle Fork and Main Salmon rivers for 10 years. His topic “Native Cutthroat of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River” will be accompanied by beautiful images provided by his wife, Kat.
