The Hamilton Broncs continued to put marks in the win column as they improved to 8-0 over the weekend with wins over Frenchtown and Whitefish. The Broncs topped Frenchtown, 55-49, and they defeated Whitefish, 80-70.
Frenchtown, the top team in the Northwest A, came to town on Thursday and they were ready to play. Frenchtown took an early lead and led most of the first quarter. Right at the buzzer, Hamilton’s Ky Burch hit a long trey at the end of the quarter to tie the game at 13 all. It was Burch again at the end of the half that gave Hamilton the lead. He hit a basket and was fouled by Brock Rugg. Burch sank the free throw and put Hamilton up by 1.
Hamilton came out in the third quarter and quickly built a lead but just as quickly, Frenchtown got hot and hit three treys in the quarter. By the end of the quarter, Hamilton held a four-point lead, until Burch hit another basket to increase the lead to six. Frenchtown went to Austin Means, their 6’8” center, to power the ball inside. The ploy worked and Frenchtown pulled to within a point with little more than three and a half minutes remaining. But Hamilton’s patience paid off and they went on to win, 55-49. Carter Kearns had 25 points to lead all players.

The Broncs had a high-scoring game against Whitefish who has a 2-5 record. Whitefish had a big first quarter and scored 25 points in the frame. But then Hamilton went to work and closed the gap to four points at the end of the half and then went on to win, 80-70. Tanner Goligoski and Kearns each had 18 points with Hunter Omlid adding 15 and Burch adding 13 points. Hamilton improved to 8-0.

Stevensville lost to Polson in a non-conference game and to Dillon, the Southwest A conference leader. Stevensville’s Jared Kingsbury had 15 points to lead the ‘Jackets against Polson in the 58-44 loss.

Dillon jumped out early and went on to win, 56-41 over the Yellowjackets. Richards and Estrada each had 10 points for Stevensville.

Corvallis topped Thompson Falls by four, 49-45, in more non conference action. The Blue Devils had three players in double figures, Logan Roth with 14, Justin Catanach with 11, and Kobe Jessop with 10 points.

Frenchtown got the best of Corvallis in a non-conference 47-31 win on Saturday. The score was tied at the end of the first quarter but then both sides went cold. Corvallis scored just three points and couldn’t regain their momentum.

Florence picked up their second conference win on Friday with a 50-33 win over Anaconda in Florence. After a close first half, the Falcons pulled away in the second half. They shut the Copperheads out in the third quarter and then scored 20 more points in the last frame. Marcus Zeiler paced the Falcons with 15 points and Colby Kohlman added 12 more.

The Falcons had a tough beginning against Deer Lodge and only scored one point in the first quarter. They did rally with 19 points in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Deer Lodge won, 56-49. Zeiler poured in 27 points for Florence in the conference game.

Darby topped Drummond, 39-34, in Class C action, non-conference action. The Tigers held Drummond to only four points in the first quarter. Dylan Parks and Zach McCrossin scored 13 and 10 points respectively for the Tigers

Victor lost to Valley Christian, 66-44. The Pirates’ numbers are going down due to injury and illness, leaving a very young team with only one senior playing. Although the Pirates stayed with the Eagles for much of the first half, they couldn’t keep up in the second. Sophomore Mason Agee had 13 points to lead Victor.

The Pirates had a very close game in Superior against the Clark Fork Mountain Cats. The two battled back and forth. The game was tied with only seconds remaining when Korey Radford hit a shot to give the win to Clark Fork. Haley poured in 20 points for Victor.
