BPL Story Time
Story Time for Kids will be held Friday, December 30 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton. “What’s Your Name?” Enjoy a story time about names with storyteller Sally Blevins. Enjoy early literacy through stories and exploration. This story time is designed for 3-5 year olds and is in the meeting room.

New Year’s Eve Ball
A New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball to benefit Emma’s House will be held Saturday, December 31 from 8 to Midnight at the Hamilton Eagles Lodge, 125 N. 2nd St., Hamilton. Music will be provided by Nashville 406. Admission is $10 per person at the door. “Out With The Old, In With The NOW” will be presented by Kay Rasch, a ritualist and feminine theology student, who will share a burning bowl ritual for clearing out and coming home again to your true self on Sunday, January 1 at 10 a.m. Each Sunday morning at 10 a.m. CSL hosts inspirational speakers who share insights of their spiritual perspective at 1720 N. 1st Street, Suite C in Selway Commons, north of Sears in Hamilton. Travelers’ Rest First Day Hike
Montana State Parks and Travelers’ Rest State Park are joining in America’s State Park Celebration of the New Year with First Day Hikes. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and welcome the New Year with friends and family. You’re invited to experience the winter beauty of the park on this free guided hike on Sunday, January 1 at 11 a.m. at Travelers’ Rest State Park, 6717 Highway 12 W, Lolo.
This will be a 1-mile easy hike along the growing trail system at Travelers’ Rest State Park. View the park’s resident wildlife and learn about the history of the site. Participants should wear weather appropriate clothing. No dogs, please. For more information call the park office at (406) 273-4253.
America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative is an annual, nationwide special event which offers individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors. On January 1, all 50 states will be participating in the sixth annual national event that encourages everyone to celebrate the New Year with a guided outdoor exploration. Last year, more than 55,000 people participated on guided hikes that covered over 133,000 miles on 1,100 hikes across the country.

Nonviolent Communication Discussion Group
Nonviolent Communication Discussion Group will meet Monday, January 2 (ongoing on first and third Mondays of the month) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Center for Spiritual Living, 1720 N. 1st Street, Hamilton (north of Sears). Learn to communicate in a non-violent way. Peace and violence start within each individual and is expressed by the way we communicate with one another. This discussion group is based on the book “Nonviolent Communication—A Language of Life” by Marshall Rosenberg. Learn Marshall’s simple technique to communicate and build healthy, strong relationships in a non-violent, peaceful, and respectful way. Purchase the book from your favorite book source. By donation. Fly Fishers of the Bitterroot
The monthly meeting of the FFB will be Tuesday, January 3 at BJ’s Restaurant in Hamilton. Social/Cocktail hour is 6 to 7 p.m. with dinner optional. The program is the club’s annual trip down memory lane. Former President, Bob Prince, has put together the year in photos, remembering fishing, good deeds, and great times. Standing Rock panel
“Standing with Standing Rock” will be presented on Wednesday, January 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Courtroom Gallery at the Ravalli County Museum, 205 Bedford Street, Hamilton. Hear Salim Matt Gras and a panel of Bitterrooters who’ve spent time at Standing Rock for a behind-the-scenes exploration of what really happened (and is happening) there, and why. Learn how peace, prayer, and ceremony can trump violence and orthodoxy. Discover how Native American wisdom can fuel a successful resistance to environmental devastation. Explore ways in which people can band together to take the Standing Rock messages and amplify them in ways meaningful both locally and globally – and come away with a feeling of hope that we can change things for the better. There will be a panel presentation with slide show followed by Q&A discussion.
