It’s really the Christmas season when Corvallis hosts the Glyn Brawley Classic wrestling tournament. The event is usually the last weekend before Christmas and serves as one last meet before the holiday break. There were nine teams competing this year and Ronan came away as the team champion. Coached by former Florence coach and Darby wrestler Jamie Muir, the team outscored Corvallis by 13 points to pin down the championship.
Corvallis had three champions. Carter Brown pinned Caden Rhine of Ronan for the win at 103 pounds. Drew Schmitt pinned Seth Cheff of Ronan for the win at 145 pounds, and Garrett Hunter pinned Cody Coleman in the heavyweight division.
Hamilton’s Justin Hinson pinned teammate Kyle Anderson at 205 pounds. Hinson finished third in the state at this weight last year. Michael Golden pinned Cahl Williams of Salmon for the championship at 113. Golden was fourth in the state last year at this weight.
Stevensville notched wins at 170 and 182 pounds. Ben Crews, last year’s state champion at 170 pounds, continued to dominate, pins Hamilton’s Manny Rivera at 3:57 for the win. Jerry Cassidy took an 8-6 decision over Mission/Charlo’s Gus Bosley for the win.
Florence’s Kyler Pancake won a 4-3 decision over Happy Cheff of Ronan won at 152 pounds.
