Bitterroot Cares for Kids
The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES) will be explored at the Bitterroot Cares for Kids Network’s event ACES in the Bitterroot on Wednesday, August 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, 327 Fairgrounds in Hamilton. ACES and resiliency are of interest to anyone who works in our communities in education, social services, health care services, public health, criminal justice, faith-based organizations and legislation as well as parents and caregivers. Back Country Horsemen
Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen host their final outdoor meeting of the summer on Thursday, August 18, at the group picnic site across from the Rock Creek horse camp at Lake Como. Potluck dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and the general meeting begins at 7 p.m. Bring a chair and your own beverage. The August 6 Gold Creek project, upcoming fall projects and the fair fundraiser will be discussed. Clothing Giveaway
The King’s Christian Church at 9830 Valley Grove Drive, Lolo, will host a Clothing Giveaway on Friday and Saturday, August 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Clothing for all sizes are available for free. Donations of clean, gently used clothing, especially baby and children clothing, as well as house wares and furniture are being accepted for this event. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, August 19 at 12 noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speakers will be Dr. Kate Vandemoer, Terry Backs and Christopher Chavasse. They will be talking about the CSKT Water Compact effects and the lawsuit. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.

“Seeing the Forest for the Trees” will be presented by Bill Giltner, a retired sheriff and gifted musician on Sunday, August 21 at 10 a.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1720 N. First Street, Suite C in Selway Commons in Hamilton. Beauty and nature exist all around us, yet we sometimes miss seeing it because we place undue importance on trivial matters. Come be inspired to let go of daily stressors and see, feel, hear and experience the beauty that exists everywhere. Golden Age picnic
The Hamilton Golden Age Club will have its indoor summer picnic for members and guests on Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.m. at the Golden Age Hall at 727 South Fifth Street in Hamilton. Fried chicken, coffee and rolls will be furnished by the club. Sides including salads and desserts will be pot-luck. Bring your own table service. Following dinner, the slightly famous “Jammers” will provide music for listening and dancing. Dance music is mostly waltzes and two-steps. The dance floor is excellent. Tables will be available for playing cards or games if you prefer not to dance. Activities will continue until 4 p.m. Golden Age Club activities are non-smoking and non-alcoholic. Admission to the dinner and dance is $6.00 per person. The club requests that you make reservations for the dinner by August 19 to ensure enough food will be available. Rotary Club
Malinda Shafman, 2016-17 Montana Rotary District Governor, will be visiting the Hamilton Rotary Club on Monday, August 22 at 12 noon at BJ’s Restaurant, 900 N. 1st Street, Hamilton. Shafman, a member of the Evergreen Rotary Club, was President of the Montana National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) in 2011. In 2014 she retired from MLA. She remains licensed and active in the insurance community, forming an LLC and working occasionally helping out other insurance advisors. The meeting is open to the public. Ropes Challenge Course meeting
B.E.A.R. (Bitterroot Ecological Awareness Resources), a local non-profit organization providing outdoor-based mentoring programs to school children, youth-in-need and other community members, is planning to bring an outdoor Ropes Challenge Course to the Bitterroot Valley in partnership with the City of Hamilton. Ropes Challenge Courses are skill development and team building tools that consist of high and low climbing elements. The proposed site for the Ropes Course is near the entrance to Hieronymus Park. Fish & Wildlife Assn.
The general membership meeting of the Ravalli County Fish & Wildlife Association will be held on Monday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at the Daly Leach funeral home. Guest speaker will be Kate Stone, bird research program director at the MPG Ranch. Kate will talk about techniques used to study various woodpeckers, owls and raptors. Tuesday at Twelve concert series

Search dogs at library
North Valley Public Library is happy to welcome the Clarkfork-Bitterroot Search Dogs on Tuesday, August 23 from 6 to 7 p.m., in the North Valley Public Library Community Room. Clarkfork-Bitterroot Search Dogs is an organization of dog handlers, certified search dogs and dogs in training. Come and learn all about these amazing dogs and their people. The presentation includes videos, actual stories, and live demonstrations. You will also get to meet the dogs and their handlers. This event is suitable for families, children ages 5 and up, teens and adults and is free to the public, but space is limited.
