Florence girls finish fourth

March 1, 2016 by Editor

The Florence Lady Falcons lost a heart breaker to the Loyola Breakers in the semi finals at the Western B Divisionals. That loss sent Florence to loser out action on Saturday morning against Deer Lodge. Florence won that game but couldn’t get past Bigfork in the consolation game and finished fourth.
Florence opened against Troy on Thursday and after a slow beginning, settled down and played tough defense. They held Troy to only 16 points in the last half and went on to win, 46-33. Chloe Arthur led the team with 12 points and Kourtney Kohlman had 10.
Florence 46, Troy 33
Troy – Aurora Becquart 9, Allie Coldwell 7, Olivia Roach 2, Kaitlyn Downey 4, Allie Brown 3, Alyssa Lewis 8.
Florence – Kourtney Kohlman 10, Autumn Round 5, Ally Rust 3, Rilee Mangun 8, MaKenna Liles 2, Danielle Zahn 6, Chloe Arthur 12.
The win put Florence into the semi finals where they met Loyola. This match is always close and this game was no different. One point separated the two at the half with Florence in the lead. Florence led by two points at the end of three quarters and continued to lead right up until there was less than a minute remaining. Loyola took the lead when Loyola sank two free throws. Kenna Guenther of Loyola sank three more free throws in the last 15 seconds to seal the win for Loyola, 46-42. Danielle Zahn of Florence led the Lady Falcons with 15 points.
Loyola 46, Florence 42.
Loyola – Schneider 7, Haran 2, Burke 13, Jacobson 4, Hollenback 7, Guenther 8, Kolar 5.

Florence prevailed in Saturday morning’s loser out game against Deer Lodge, 53-44, but they had to do it with their leading scorer, Zahn, sitting on the bench for all of the fourth quarter and half of the third quarter. She fouled out with 4:30 left in the third quarter and Deer Lodge took advantage of that, scoring twice as many points in that quarter. But then Florence regrouped and held off the charging Lady Wardens to win and advance to the consolation game that afternoon. Even with her limited playing time, Zahn dropped in 15 points for Florence.
Florence 53, Deer Lodge 44
Florence – Kohlman 6, Round 3, Rust 6, Jewel Zeiler3, Mangun 4, Liles 8, Zahn 15, Arthur 8.
Deer Lodge – Applegate 8, Gray 8, Campbell 6, Senecal 6, Walker 3, Cooper 1, Scully 2, Lamb 10.
Florence jumped out to an early lead in the consolation game against Bigfork but the taller, larger team, muscled their way through the rest of the game and went on to win, 52-41. Zahn finished with 17 points.
Bigfork 52, Florence 41
Bigfork – Norred 6, Berg 10, McAnally 7, Thomas 6, Berg 10, Campbell 13.
