The Lady Tigers of Darby have struggled a bit this year, trying to find their identity after losing all five starters to graduation last year and having a new coach this year. Hoop Reed, long-time assistant boys coach in Darby, has moved over and taken on the head girls coaching position.
This weekend gave them a big boost up the standings. They picked up conference wins over Victor and Lincoln and moved up in the standings. Strong play by senior Breanna Brickey on the inside and Casey Ehmann on the outside have given the Lady Tigers a well-rounded attack.
Although Darby led throughout the game against Victor, the Lady Pirates came close a couple of times in the first half and actually took the lead with less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter when Jamie Burdett hit a three point shot. Krissy Kuettel then sank another Victor shot for the lead. But not for long. Brickey came back to hit and inside shot and was fouled. She sank the free throw as well and Darby regained the lead. They went on to hold Victor scoreless in the third quarter while putting 21 points on the board. Darby won, 62-29. Brickey and Ehmann each had 13 points in the win.
