Bitterroot basketball bonanza

Florence vs Stevensville

The Stevensville girls hosted Bitterroot neighbor Florence on Tuesday, January 6. Florence’s full court pressure and overall team depth was too much for Stevensville, as Florence controlled the game from start to finish. Florence jumped out to a 41-2 lead in the second quarter and won 68-23.

Florence highlighted their team depth as nine girls scored. Florence’s Ali Meinhold led the scoring with 18 points, Taylor Pyette had 10, Kendyl Meinhold had 8, Maggie Schneiter had 7, Shelby Crocker, Jaden Fisher, and Emory Ralston each scored 6, Madigan Hurlbert had 5, and Alex Nelson added 2. 

For Stevensville, Addi Drye led the scoring with 14 points, Kayden Tolley had 4, and Amy Donaldson added 3.

On Thursday, Jan. 8, the Florence boys hosted the Stevensville boys. The game was big on offense as Florence led 28-16 after one quarter. The defenses buckled down in the 2nd quarter and Florence led 37-19 at halftime. In the second half, both teams were able to generate offense, but Florence generated more and rolled to a 91-53 victory. 

Florence vs Corvallis

The Corvallis boys hosted the Florence boys on Friday, January 9. Florence controlled the game early and led 39-19 at halftime. The Corvallis boys outscored Florence 21-10 in the third quarter to narrow Florence’s lead to 49-40, but Florence took control in the 4th and outscored Corvallis 24-7 and Florence won 73-47.

The Florence girls hosted the Corvallis girls on Saturday, Jan. 10. Florence jumped out to a 16-0 lead thanks to forced turnovers and efficient shooting. At this point, the game could have easily gotten out of hand as Florence is one of the top teams in the state and has been dominating teams this season, but Corvallis responded nicely and played the rest of the half evenly, with Florence leading 38-24 at halftime. Corvallis fought hard in the second half, outscoring Florence 20-19, but they just weren’t able to cut into the lead and Florence won 57-44.

For Florence, Maggie Schneiter led the scoring with 14 points, Ali Meinhold, Jaden Fisher, and Kendyl Meinhold each scored 10, Emory Ralston had 7, and Madigan Hurlbert and Alyx Monaco each added 3.

For Corvallis, Ava Loran led with 14 points, Lauryn Holmberg, Briella Epling, and Kaia Benson each had 7, Kate Allen at 6, and Ella Varner added 4.

Darby vs Plains

The Darby boys and girls hosted Plains on Friday, January 9. In the boys game, Darby’s Leif Nelson hit a three-pointer to tie the game 39-39 with 18 seconds left to play. Darby had two free throws to win the game at the end of regulation but missed both. In overtime, a late Jordan Browning steal and layup sealed the game and Darby won 48-46. 

For Darby, Leif Nelson led with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Jordan Browning had 15 points, 3 assists, and 7 steals. McCoy Townsend had 8 points and 2 rebounds. Gavin Anderson had 4 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals. Abe Atkins had 3 points. And Oliver Long had 2 points and 4 rebounds.

In the girls game, Darby built a 19-14 halftime lead, but the Tigers went cold in the second half and Darby lost 34-43. For Darby, Hadley Heiland led with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Natalie Anderson had 9 points, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds. Austin Hackel had 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals, and Brooklyn Janis had 4 points and 5 steals. 

Darby vs Drummond

The Darby boys and girls went to Drummond on Saturday, January 10. In the girls game, Darby ran up against a tough Drummond squad and lost 14-64. For Darby, Hadley Heiland led with 7 points, Brooklyn Janis had 4, and Stella Smith added 3. 

In the boys game, Darby jumped out to a 30-18 halftime lead, and continued their good play in the second half and won 61-46. Leif Nelson led the scoring with 23 points, McCoy Townsend had 10, Oliver Long had 8, Gavin Anderson and Jordan Browning each had 6, Abe Aktins had 4, and Daniel Stewart and Quintin Woirhaye each added 2. 

Stevensville vs Frenchtown

The Stevensville girls hosted a strong Frenchtown team on Thursday, January 8. The Yellowjackets weren’t able to generate enough offense to stay with the Broncs and fell behind 6-52 at halftime and lost 15-62. For Stevensville, Addi Drye led the way with 12 points, Harley Gilleard had 2, and Kayden Tolley added 1. 

Stevensville vs Butte Central

The Stevensville boys hosted Butte Central on Saturday, January 10. Stevensville couldn’t slow down Central and fell behind 16-47 at halftime, and lost 39-74.

The Stevensville girls traveled to Butte Central on Saturday, Jan. 10. Stevensville trailed 12-32 at halftime and lost 23-59. 

Victor vs Seeley

The Victor boys and girls traveled to Seeley on Friday, January 9 to battle the Blackhawks. In the girls game, Victor got behind early and trailed 12-36 at halftime and couldn’t make a second half comeback and lost 19-65. For Victor, Brooklyn Cary had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Asia Parks had 5 points and 2 steals. Veayla Chavez had 4 points, and  Cyrri Ames and Kayden Allred each added 2 points. 

In the boys game, Victor had a hard time containing Seeley and lost 37-82. For Victor, Koen Nattall had a solid game and led the scoring with 19 points, Colin Lewis had 11, Kordel Martin had 4, and Ben Neider added 3.
